want to buy some paintings in JJ market - export problem

If the painting are not of great value or have an age that makes them a part of Thai history or heritage, then you will not have any kind of problem. That said, of course there is going to be a limit on the amount of things you can take with you home without declaring it as export for commercial purposes.

I have brought several such items back to the US ,in my checked in suitcase, never had a problem.

I used to have a business with a friend in the US having pet portraits from photos painted here and shipped to US.

Just buy a short length of 2-3" PVC pipe.  Roll the paintings together, making sure no painted surfaces are touching or they can stick together and the paint may blend if oil paint. Very difficult to separate.   Pack and seal both ends of the PVC pipe so the paintings are secure and the ends well sealed.

Cheapest Thai Post method used to cost about B1000 for 1kg.  Would take about 10 days to US East coast.

Never had a painting damaged using PVC pipe.  Tried a cardboard tube once on a rush job and it arrived with a fold, which ruined the painting inside.
