Popular Post NanLaew
Concerns about the income of army generals in Thailand are all relative. If you are not a relative of an army general, then it doesn't concern you. 1
Popular Post andygrr
If they used some of that money to pay the rest of the armed forced (Low ranks), there would be no need for conscription. Thais would be happy to join up if they saw it as a decently paid career. In the long run Thailand would have better trained and committed soldiers.

Yeah... but the aircraft carrier would still be knackered.

Pedrogaz
Given the salaries of public servants including the military and its generals, it is impossible to become wealthy if the salary is your only source of income. The public should have the unusual wealth of the seemingly hundreds of generals in Thailand...shouldn;t AMLO or some such organisation be investigating?????? Popular Post 727Sky
IMO no matter what country you look at the question should always be how come public servants on a salary end up millionaires after a few years ?.. Quote "America does not need to see the tax return of a billionaire who became a public servant. America needs to see the tax returns of all public servants who became millionaires while being public servants.

Popular Post BobBKK
I admire Thanathorn greatly but worry for his safety. They will make up anything, do anything to keep their power and only time will cull the dinosaurs. If he can play the long game he might have a chance (maybe this is wishful thinking). 4
DJ54
Read this can’t say if it’s accurate or not. All conscripts are in the grade of Private / Seaman / Aircraftman (OR-1) for the entire length of service, regardless of educational qualification. There are wage increases after completion of basic training and with time-in-grade. Although it is alleged that more than half of conscripts end up as servants[20] to senior officers or clerks in military cooperative shops,[21][22] most conscripts regardless of their volunteer status and educational background are placed in the rates or occupational specialty according to the need for their branch of service. Having more Generals than armoured vehicles means that, in times of conflict, each AFV will be commanded by an officer of General rank who not only knows the battle plan but writes it.???? 1
thailand49
Yes follow the money the problem in Thailand when you do you become a target for the good old boys so if he was smart start to have a exit plan like Yingluck and Brother.
mberbae
If Thailand is EVER going to come out from the Yoke of Corruption - people like Tanathron are needed to lead the way. The problem is - he is expendable , as are the ones behind him. Thus...the Status Quo remains safe for the forsee-able future.

Popular Post Teddy3943
The vast majority of the Thai population is indifferent about these issues, because 1. They are not informed and don't make efforts to inform themselfs. 2. They are not educated about how a decent democracy should operate. 3, This vast majority hardly knows any other language than Thai and thus never read foreign websites or newspapers. 4. Television programs are mostly about entertainment and soap series and not ment to bring the population to a higher level of awareness of the situation in Thailand compared with e.g. higher developed countries. So, it will take a very long time before anything changes here.
