A man who stole the collection box at a Chonburi temple was allowed to walk free because he had a good track record.

Ekkarat, 57, initially denied taking the donations' box that contained 3,000 baht.

Then he was shown CCTV and changed his story.

He said that he had built up debts of 100,000 gambling on football online.

Phra Chaisitthisunthorn - assistant to the abbot at Wat Yai Intharam - took pity on Ekkarat because he had donated to the temple before.

He was led to do some vows to the deities promising never to steal again.

The police let him go as no charges were made.

I wonder how much he donated before? Was it 3,000 Baht? Perhaps he donated as a 'loss leader' to find a way to steal money.

I believe all donations are 'loss leaders'  for many... a lottery ticket will follow!

If a thief has a good track record, doesn't it mean he's successfully pilfered loads of stuff?

Another great example Of accountability to show Thai youngsters....

A Wai solves everything in Thailand.

Just as well or the prisons would be holding more than half the population.

When the truth of what happens around the clock, of the round of money, and of who manages this money will come to light, how many netizens will be outraged?

Not for long-now he can get away with no record ???? ????????

Agree.  Would the police have turned a blind eye if a farang was guilty?  Here, you can get 'fined' for three days overstay.
