Korat: Fire devastates half of downtown market

Naew Na reported that fire broke out at the Mae Kim Heng fresh food market on Suranaree Road in downtown Nakhon Ratchasima around 8.45 pm last night. 

 

Around 100 stalls - about half the market - was destroyed before the fire was brought under control at about 10 pm. 

 

The fire spread to a three story building two shops of which were damaged as firemen with 20 fire engines battled the blaze. 

 

Provincial governor Wichian was on the scene with the local mayor and police. 

 

There was no word as yet about the cause of the fire or estimates of financial damage.

Small businesses are struggling as it is, they really could do without this kind of bad luck on top of it all... I do feel sorry for them, to an extent, but then they put up with corrupt leadership who do nothing for them !!

Are you an insider who knows all those unofficial payments a that specific market?

Or which corrupt leadership do you blame for this?

I have been expecting it for a long time that in one of the many Thai markets it succeeded, too many fires without control!

 So many families depend on this for their livelihood . Hard times ahead for many. I hope the government helps with low interest loans and grants to rebuild.
