Thailand looks to become LNG hub

Energy Minister Sontirat Songtijirawong

The Energy Policy Administration Committee today (December 4) acknowledged the guidelines for turning Thailand into the regional trading hub of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The guidelines came about from a study assigned by the government-appointed energy reform committee to PTT.

Energy Minister Sontirat Songtijirawong said that the move was estimated to generate Bt165 billion for Thailand’s economy between 2020 and 2030.

The country is expected to start full commercial trading late next year or early in 2021.

Thailand has potential to become the regional hub due to its high demand of LNG and its geographical location as the centre of countries with high LNG demand, namely China, India, Japan, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Moreover, Thailand has a supportive infrastructure to serve regional LNG trading.

Thailand is expected to provide services related to regional LNG trading in the first quarter of next year on a trial basis. The trial will also cover an LNG reload system and filling of LNG-fuelled vessels.

It will also revise the relevant rules and create intra-regional cooperation on the LNG trading.

And maybe they are the HUB for drugs?

More than $1 billion of methamphetamine has been seized in raids across Melbourne with three people being charged over the mammoth bust, biggest in Australia so far.

The Australian Federal Police said the haul was the largest ever onshore seizure of the drug.

The AFP alleges two Thai men, aged 37 and 38, and a woman, 37, were involved in the importation of more than 1.6 tonnes of illicit drugs — equal to almost 16 million drug deals — in stereo speakers originating from Bangkok, Thailand.

That could be embarrassing as someone else seems to have got there first  ????

And add India to the list of LNG hubs:

  • Global oil and gas majors are looking to India, the world’s third biggest oil importer, to buy some of their excess liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the South Asian nation improves its gas infrastructure and strives to reduce emissions.

How would it become a hub, it has no facilities for LNG so why a hub?

Since when has 'no facilities' held back the development of a hub in Thailand!   It's the hub of hubs....nothing can stop them from creating another hub. ????

Not for long. The technocracy is determined to drive us all into electic vehicles, whether for commercial or private use. Just a matter of time.

Thailand will be dragged kicking and screaming into electric vehicle future.

Today they offer zero subsidy or incentives and lack of infrastructure...much like solar. They may pay lip service to it, and say all the right things in summits...but it's all lies.

They are happy with the status quo of high import tariffs, fuel tax and local car industry.

No change necessary for now.

Nobody wants to do business in a Thailand because they can’t be trusted to follow up their end of a bargain in contracts.  They still have 3 big issues out-Aussie gold mine, Phillip Morris and the retroactive Chevron dispute.  No corporation in their right mind would do business in Thailand
