The Medical Services Department has unveiled Thailand’s first robot created to help surgeons in brain surgery on patients afflicted with epilepsy, a central nervous system disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behaviour or sensation.

Developed by the Prasat Neurological Institute, the robot is capable of pinpointing the areas in the brain on which to operate with precision and can shorten the time in surgery, from a normal 8-10 hours to about six hours, according to Dr. Somsak Akkasilp, director-general of the Medical Services Department.

He said the robot can also be used in surgery on other brain diseases or disorders, such as Parkinson’s, adding that the new device has already been used in operations on four complicated cases of epilepsy.

It was not developed by Thailand.

maybe translation error or press miswrote it to claim credit for device . i hpe the surgeons did not tell them it was developed in thailand when the correct term is "delivered to thailand"

saying that can actually have a negative effect on getting new patients as many thai's would avoid medical technology made in thailand.

"In Thailand, about 500,000 people suffer from epilepsy, almost 150,000 of them are resistant to anti-seizure medications and half of them can be treated by standard surgery."

Has Thailand done it again?  The named institution is Thai and announced they developed a technology that ROSA, a French company developed some time before and has since been used around the world.  The same equipment as developed by ROSA is that used in the posted story.  The report reminds me of the song, "When will they ever learn?"  Same goes for TAT with their number games.

'nuf sed.

high fat diet / avoid sugar works also in some people

nah, let's open the skull and mess with the brains
