daveAustin
Nowt wrong with supporting them in spirit from the safety of the armchair (whatever you want to call it). Farangs on the street - aside from getting in the way of what they're trying to do here and really peeing off the army - are just asking for it. High hopes for this guy against those on high.

Try doing a very simple Google Search here, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanathorn_Juangroongruangkit Thanathorn was born and raised in Bangkok to a Teochew background family[3], the second child of five. His mother, Somporn Juangroongruangkit, is the current President and CEO of the Thai Summit Group, taking over the company from Thanathorn's father, Pattana Juangroongruangkit, after his death in 2002. Pattana founded the Thai Summit Group in 1977. The Juangroongruangkit family also owns a large stake in the Thai media conglomerate, Matichon Publishing Group.[4] Upon starting his political career, Thanathorn resigned from the Matichon board and Thai Summit Group.[4] His mother, Somporn, also sold all her Matichon stock. Thanathorn's uncle, Suriya Juangroongruangkit, is a politician who served as Minister of Transport of Thailand between 2002 and 2005. Suriya is one of the leaders of Phalang Pracharat, the most prominent pro-junta party. It is so easy, even I can do it, and I have just for you. Instead of asking the question on TVF, Why not research it yourself, then if you are not happy with what you have, search some more. 4 1
Popular Post simtemple
The sole purpose of the Thai Army is to suppress the popular will of poor people. The fascist Generalisimo will not hesitate to order the Army to start slaughtering the opposition. He might even use it as an excuse to incarcerate subversive foreigners. 3

Passed away, mum and son Thanothorn took over a profitable business and they too made good money. So basically he inherited his wealth. Bus luckily he came with principles too. He has been protesting and fighting for just causes as early as young adulthood. You may have seen some photo's around of him joining a protest a long time ago. So his heart seems to be in the right place. His money is a great attribute in being able to build a movement that simple poor folks couldn't really afford to set up (money wise and due to intimidation from the powers to be). But it's not just about Thanathorn. He is just one guy. Just look at the folks that joined or support FFP, and it. Such as Piyabutr Saengkanokkul and Nidhi Eoseewong. Unlike that other filthy rich populist guy and his numerous parties with populist policies, FFP seems the real deal. Fighting for democracy, human rights and other things many such things we take for granted in most other developed nations. He has a provable record of philanthropic, altruistic activity. That genuineness is why he poses a far, far, FAR bigger threat to the dinosaurs than anything or anyone who came before him ... Also: Thanathorn is personally a man of great physical and mental endurance. He participates in extreme sports, gruelling and challenging physical marathons, runs, climbing, etc., etc. He is perfectly fitted for the role of a nation's champion. He will not collapse, buckle, fold and kowtow, like some others have done in the past. He will fight on with determination. He strikes me as a man of Destiny ... Well said indeed. And one more positive item, he has no record of corruption. Edited December 15, 2019 by scorecard 5

Popular Post Eligius
I see that the 'police' are now planning to prosecute Thanathorn and Co. with a 'breach of the law' for the Saturday rally. This was predicted by some of us on Saturday (not that that was a difficult call to make). The Authorities are driving the Thai people more and more into a desperate corner. When you make peaceful self-expression impossible, you make the other thing very possible indeed ... 4

Popular Post Daveyh
Hmmm .............. This will to my mind end badly. It may have a government here, but it's definitely not democratic. It's dangerous to vent & air your views, anger & demonstrate on the streets ............. during 2014 it started peaceful, then ended in violence & the deaths of scores of people. I hope the demonstrations can stay good humored, safe for everyone & the numbers increase in size so that the government here starts to take notice ........... at present it's only the elite community, who are the minority, sadly they are the only views that the government listens to at the moment. Good luck & may democracy rule for the majority here ......... fingers crossed.

He is what this backwards country needs. You do remember Thaksin don't you? Last thing Thailand needs is a repeat of that whole episode. If you think being already rich means you can't be thoroughly corrupt or power hungry, think again. Not that I'm saying that the new guy is just like Thaksin, but your logic as to why people should trust him is flawed to say the least.

My heart goes out to the protesters because they have a great fight ahead of them; their opponents are dug in, nasty as hell, and determined to hang on to power at pretty much any cost. That said, anyone who studies Asian history knows that political change usually comes from the young and from students as they are the ones who have the moral high-ground. It does not always prevail over guns and tanks, but it does not always lose either. Never forget dear students; you are fighting The Cheating Cheaters Who Cheat. And, they will continue to cheat and cheat and cheat and cheat. "....dug in, nasty as hell, and determined to hang on to power at pretty much any cost. ..." Plus even worse they control / intimidate the judges who because of the pressure and intimidation and possibly because of corruption have no hesitation to make decisions which are blatantly outside of the intent of various laws. But IMHO the day will come when all of that crashes and hopefully that will mean the power base will change and ethical folks who want a better / balanced deal for all Thais will run the ship and the current unethical immoral power holders go to jail for a long time and are seriously shamed. Go FF, go for it, it will be a long road but well worth it and let's hope there is no violence. 1
