Wouldn't it be great if Thailand would have real grassroot movement from (relative) poor people for poor people?

At last I had enough from Billionaires who claim they only work in politics to make life better for the poor...

Going out to support them in their demos?

I'm sure that the army have more than 10,000 bullets.

And the Thai military has more than 1,750 flag officers (generals and admirals), a bloated number for a military of its size.

So ….

Nowt wrong with supporting them in spirit from the safety of the armchair (whatever you want to call it). Farangs on the street - aside from getting in the way of what they're trying to do here and really peeing off the army - are just asking for it. High hopes for this guy against those on high.

I think what you suggest, Sawadee1947, is very, VERY likely. On the cards, I would say (sadly). And it would surely not be the first time that the ruling powers will have done such a thing ...

Yes, recently in Hongkong.

Any farang that takes part in a demonstration will face deportation. So, what do you want them to do?

If they don,t want to put up try shutting up and not expecting other people to do what they haven,t got the bottle to do.

Read his biography or see  some posts earlier in this thread, his dad had a company in the auto industry. Passed away, mum and son Thanothorn took over a profitable business and they too made good money. So basically he inherited his wealth. Bus luckily he came with principles too. He has been protesting and fighting for just causes as early as young adulthood. You may have seen some photo's around of him joining a protest a long time ago.  So his heart seems to be in the right place.  His money is a great attribute in being able to build a movement that simple poor folks couldn't really afford to set up (money wise and due to intimidation from the powers to be).

But it's not just about Thanathorn. He is just one guy. Just look at the folks that joined or support FFP,  and it. Such as Piyabutr Saengkanokkul and Nidhi Eoseewong. Unlike that other filthy rich populist guy and his numerous parties with populist policies, FFP seems the real deal. Fighting for democracy, human rights and other things many such things we take for granted in most other developed nations.

Ahh, come on. Don't be so cynical. Unlike an army general who desires a high up position to enrich himself, Thanathorn comes to the picture already rich. Heh, he loaned $6.3 million (?) to the party.

IMO, Thanathorn is the real deal. He is what this backwards country needs.

You do remember Thaksin don't you? Last thing Thailand needs is a repeat of that whole episode. If you think being already rich means you can't be thoroughly corrupt or power hungry, think again.

Not that I'm saying that the new guy is just like Thaksin, but your logic as to why people should trust him is flawed to say the least.

Yes, and sadly they will continue to do everything that they can to prevent Democracy from taking hold.

My heart goes out to the protesters because they have a great fight ahead of them; their opponents are dug in, nasty as hell, and determined to hang on to power at pretty much any cost. That said, anyone who studies Asian history knows that political change usually comes from the young and from students as they are the ones who have the moral high-ground. It does not always prevail over guns and tanks, but it does not always lose either.

Never forget dear students; you are fighting The Cheating Cheaters Who Cheat.

And, they will continue to cheat and cheat and cheat and cheat.

"....dug in, nasty as hell, and determined to hang on to power at pretty much any cost. ..."

Plus even worse they control / intimidate the judges who because of the pressure and intimidation and possibly because of corruption have no hesitation to make decisions which are blatantly outside of the intent of various laws.

But IMHO the day will come when all of that crashes and hopefully that will mean the power base will change and ethical folks who want a better / balanced deal for all Thais will run the ship and the current unethical immoral power holders go to jail for a long time and are seriously shamed.

Go FF, go for it, it will be a long road but well worth it and let's hope there is no violence.
