Thai visa shake-up: Southeast Asia consulates switch to e-visa only
Last few years it seems "E-Visas" are the norm already so what's really new here? I have obtained two tourist E-Visas for Cambodia and one tourist visa for Myanmar in the last two years. I have also helped a British friend obtain a marriage E-Visa for Thailand twice (2023 & 2024). I have also helped my GF obtain two visit visas for the UK online in 2023 & 2024 (still have to go and submit passport and biometrics at an office in Bangkok). We had to file pre-entry permits for Singapore easily online when we went in 2023. I really don't see what the issues could be. Who wants to go to an embassy when it can all be done from the comfort of a hotel room or at home online? -

Newin and Thaksin Discuss Political Strategy in Private Meeting
De facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob engaged in private talks with de facto Pheu Thai leader Thaksin Shinawatra at the latter’s residence, according to sources familiar with the meeting. The gathering, held yesterday at Thaksin’s Chan Song Lah house in Thonburi, Bangkok, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul, marking a significant political interaction between influential figures of Thailand's ruling coalition. Anutin, when questioned by reporters today at Government House, refrained from sharing details about the discussion. Speculation is rife that the meeting centred around upcoming political manoeuvres, possibly concerning Thaksin's looming legal challenges. These challenges are said to be linked to allegations of his active, albeit unofficial, involvement in Pheu Thai’s leadership, a move that could potentially lead to legal repercussions for him and the party. Sources indicate that this meeting could have touched on strategies to navigate potential accusations that Thaksin unlawfully influences the party from behind the scenes, which could also jeopardise the party’s legal standing. Palang Pracharath Secretary-General Paiboon Nititawan has hinted at unveiling fresh actions against Thaksin come Thursday, suggesting heightened political tension on the horizon. This dialogue follows Thaksin's controversial involvement in guiding the Pheu Thai party, especially after a pivotal meeting at his home last August. This meeting was in response to the Constitutional Court’s decision to impeach former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, underscoring Thaksin's significant, albeit contentious, role in the country’s political landscape. Thaksin has been the subject of scrutiny since he was reportedly given preferential treatment in avoiding lengthy jail time, following his return from 17 years of self-imposed exile. This latest meeting with Newin only intensifies speculation about Thailand's political future and the manoeuvres of its most influential political figures. Picture courtesy: Sanook -- 2024-10-08 -

Spreaders of Conspiracy Theories: Unmasking the Motivations Behind the Lies
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a collection of anti-Jewish conspiracy theories, some of which go back to the early days of Christianity. What's most disturbing is that anti-Jewish tropes and canards have lasted not just for centuries but millenia and can be seen today on the pages of Asean Now. Antisemitism has no basis in truth or fact and has been refuted countless times, but still stubbornly occupies the minds of people who often claim not to be anti-Jewish. "Sometimes called 'the longest hatred,' antisemitism has persisted in many forms for over two thousand years. The racial antisemitism of the National Socialists (Nazis) took hatred of Jews to a genocidal extreme, yet the Holocaust began with words and ideas: stereotypes, sinister cartoons, and the gradual spread of hate." https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/antisemitism-in-history-from-the-early-church-to-1400 Because The Protocols of the Elders of Zion was so widely disseminated and believed, it played a role in the deaths of millions of Jews in the first half of the 20th century. It is still read and distrubuted in the Middle East. The original covenant of Hamas from 1988 makes mention of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion : "The Zionist plan is limitless. After Palestine, the Zionists aspire to expand from the Nile to the Euphrates. When they will have digested the region they overtook, they will aspire to further expansion, and so on. Their plan is embodied in the 'Protocols of the Elders of Zion', and their present conduct is the best proof of what we are saying." -

S/E Asian Thai Consulates going to eVisa online system effective Tuesday Oct 8th
People should remember that the counries already providing e-visas do so on the basis the applicant has the legal right to long term residence in the country concerned, short term eg tourist visas are not acceptable residence. Some countries are a bit unclear but this is how the HK site puts it Confirmation of legal residence, in the context of the Hong Kong SAR, generally refers to (a) Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card (“A” HKID); (b) Hong Kong Identity Card indicating right to land (“R” HKID) or unconditional stay permit (“U” HKID); or (c) valid stay permit issued by Hong Kong Immigration (for “C” HKID holders). Confirmation of legal residence, in the context of the Macao SAR, generally refers to (a) Macao Permanent Resident ID Card (flip-side to be submitted along with front-side); or (b) valid stay permit issued by Macao Immigration. https://hongkong.thaiembassy.org/en/page/visa-info -

Hundreds of customers test positive for drugs in raid on Pattaya pub
That raid in Pattaya was intense! It’s crazy how quickly things can escalate in places like that. A while back, some friends and I ended up at a spot that seemed fun until the cops showed up, and we all had to show IDs. Just a bunch of nervous laughter and everyone trying to play it cool. I can’t help but think about how some people are always trying to find shortcuts, like looking up smoke shops that sell synthetic urine near me - https://ccwrc.org/smoke-shops-that-sell-synthetic-urine-near-me/ . I found some useful tips online that helped clarify things if anyone ever needs it. Just goes to show that if people put as much effort into finding safe hangouts as they do dodging tests, they’d probably have a lot more fun! It’s all about making smarter choices, right? -
