LOPBURI(NNT) - Let’s take a moment to appreciate natural beauty in Lopburi province, where sunflowers in fields spanning over 700 rai are now in full bloom in a chilly climate.

At Chon Saradach subdistrict in Lopburi, sunflowers are in full bloom in the vast 700 rai of fields which are now covered in a golden color. Most farmers here plant sunflowers to harvest their seeds for processing. But during the full bloom period, local farmers allow tourists to enter their farms and enjoy the idyllic scenery, helping promote eco-friendly tourism and agricultural tourism.

Sunflower fields in Lopburi will continue to bloom until January. Most of the fields are located close to the road, providing easy access to tourists visiting individually or in groups.

Those who wish to visit by car should take Phahonyothin road on Lopburi-Nong Muang sector bound for Chon Saradach Subdistrict Administrative Organization. For more information, call TAT Lopburi office tel 036-770096-7.

I live in Nakhon Sawan Province about 100 kilometers from Lop[buri.  There used to be Sunflowers everywhere this time of the year planted after the corn was harvested in early September.  They have been disappearing in recent years mainly due to the weather as they need dry weather.  This year there virtually are none due to the rain in august and September.  the farmers planted either a second planting of corn that was just harvested, sorghum or a few other cash crops.

I also live near Nakhon Sawan and I must sadly confirm that sunflowers have disappeared even in temples.
I also blame the many fires that are lit, especially in the sugar cane fields!
After the new year my wife and I want to drop by Lopburi to enjoy this show!

I've been here 2 or 3 times.  A beautiful sight.  Lots of sweethearts taking photo's.

Where I live it was totally the weather.  Our Coop actually purchased many cases of sunflower seeds and they are still stacked in the corner of the weigh station office.  It was just too wet.

The fires are decreasing every year due to more mechanized harvesting, I'd estimate that it's a 50 - 50 split.  When I moved into my house exactly 19 years ago this month all cane and corn harvesting was done by hand.  I imported three JD combines, and others have appeared, and now 95% of the corn is mechanically harvested, but the sugar is another story.  The cane harvesters are trucked in and one company buys the whole field by the Rai.  They cut, haul, rake the forage, bale it and haul it out.  I looked at importing a cane harvester but couldn't get anybody to help fund the cost.
