Any 3BB Fiber Users Managed to Dump ISP Router, Not just Bridge Mode?

Featured Replies

NT may be ok if you read Thai. But for a majority, 3bb seems far more foreigner friendly with full english available on their website. Try to find a sigle english word on the NT broadband internet website.....if you do so, you are not on the correct website????

It's a Huawei, EG8010H - We had some difficulties when moving in, 3BB didnt really know how to install it. The 3BB "tech" tried to tell me it wouldn't work because I was living in the village, I was too far away from the city, that there was a different protocol used in Issan than the south, etc and they bought 3 different types of ONT to try and solve the issue. So, if you cant get the one mentioned, they have alternatives. There is no config, they are already setup, it's just a basic terminal, one fibre port in - one ethernet port out.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the HG8030M on Lazada. Will look for the EG8010H now.

After reading this thread, I looked at the NT website and came to the same conclusion.

I need to check the serial for you, maybe HG not EG - I was just working off images on internet and memory - Lazada have this -

https://s.lazada.co.th/s.Pc5Fl

but it’s really something for 3bb to supply you for free - I had enough problems with getting them to figure out how to configure their own kit in the first place, the solution was like another poster, have the correct VLAN to add to your PPoE credentials - they would probably walk away from a non-3bb ONU.

This is incorrect. 3BB has it's own International Gateway and 3BB torrenting and downloading speed is pretty good. I'm getting 400-500 Mbit/s easily on a single torrent.

Are you sure 3BB have their own gateway? I can't find it on the attached.  Instantaneous Speed for me is irrelevant, volume is important to me, I am getting 2.7TB/day consistently with CAT. My 2 servers are about 350 TB.

Thanks for the update. I've already bought the HG8310M (from the same vendor in your link above) to play with.

Success!

I have managed to remove the 3BB supplied HG8145V routing-type Optical Network Terminal (which I previously set to bridge mode, so I can use my ASUS RT-AC86U instead) from my 3BB fibre setup and replace it with a HG8310M ONT that I bought off Lazada for 300 baht. Here's a pic of my setup. I've left the HG8145V in the picture so you can see the difference in the size of the devices. I'm keeping it there as a standby for a couple of days so I can easily revert to the old setup, should anything untoward happen.

Did anyone get the UFiber NanoG working with 3BB Fibre? I would love to stick to all Ubiquiti Unifi stuff.

You can contact Ubiquity Thailand 02 114 7275 to check if it's possible. I haven't seen them for sale here, have you?

I don't actually see much benefit  - they aren't unifi, so im guessing the don't appear on the conroller dashboard. I can monitor my 3BB ONT (same model as @Mutt Daeng details above, on my own home dashboard.

1. MD, any update on how your alternate setup above is or isn't working since your prior post on this?

2. Anyone else with a 3BB fiber setup manage to replicate MD's experience with this?

Yes, I have a 3BB supplied GPON ONT running for many years, the Huawei model numbers seem to be different, but they still do the same thing, maybe the same inner workings.

@Mutt Daeng Is your setup still functioning?

I get the same results on Speedtest, using the router supplied by 3BB, 1GB/500.

Why need I change please?

Not sure what you are asking. Nobody has said anyone "needs" to change anything.

Ubiquiti now have UF-Instant SFP ONU but unfortunately only works if the ISP is running Ubiquiti. But for UF-Nano (UFiber Nano G) and UF-LOCO (UFiber Loco) these support the following OLT's at the ISP end.
Huawei MA5608T (firmware version: MA5600V800R013C10)
Huawei MA5683T (firmware version: MA5600V800R015C00 / patch: SPC101)
Huawei MA5800-X15
Huawei MA5800-X7
FiberHome AN5516-04 (firmware version: VR3.2)
ZTE ZXA10 (firmware version: GTGOG V1.2.5P3)

Does anyone know what OLT Equipment 3BB are using?

Replacing the 3BB Huawei HG8145V Router with a Huawei HG8310M Bridging ONT.pdf 264.29 kB · 39 downloads

I’m trying to replace my HG8145x6 router from 3BB with a converter…just wondering if it was plug and play? No serial number transfer needed? How about pppoe…did you need to set a user / passwd in the Asus router?

Any help would be appreciated.

regards

Not exactly plug and play. I had to copy the ONT Authentication parameters from the router which I was replacing (Huawei HG8145V)  to the replacement device (Huawei HG8310M) . This is described in the PDF attached to my post which you quoted above. I had previously configured the HG8145V  to "bridge" mode with the ASUS router connected to it. I had to specify the 3BB pppoe userid and password in the ASUS config.   Hope this is of use to you.

Hi again!

I have tried everything but just cant get it to work. Copied the serial number, but it wont make a connection. Do you think you need to be in bridge mode before this is possible? Did you do it yourself or did 3BB had to do it? Is it as simple as switching mode from use vlan to not use vlan in the menus?

I use VLAN 10 as stated on the router info page. This is correct right? I read somewhere they use VLAN 33...idk

I see there is some parameters like ONT ID and ONT Reg status. Do they have to match, or will they auto match when connected you think?

I managed to get the PPPOE details from 3BB, and following the opnsense guides and filled all in. But its just not working. Anything I might have missed?

Here is all my info from the router (i replaced the ip adresses with x):

1_TR069_INTERNET_R_VID_10 Connected X:X:X:X 10/0 Always On

I referred to your PDF which very useful. I bought the HG8310M and copied across the serial number from the HG8145 into the LOID field of the ONT Authentication. As much as I tried and reset and rebooted and saved, it would just not work and attain solid PON light. Two days ago I emailed 3BB contact center saying that I wanted to use my own router (Asus Wifi7) and GPON device. They emailed back next day saying my case had been forwarded to the related departments. To my surprise, this morning I got a call from the 3BB engineer saying he'd be with me in the next hour (Bangkok). He arrived soon and I explained what I wanted to do, he took a picture of my HG8310M serial number and sent it to his office. He then called them. Within 5 minutes the GPON light on the HG8310M was solid green. Almost instantly, my pre-configured new Asus WiFi7 connected to the internet. Very happy! Needless to say the engineer received a good TIP.

Thanks @soi3eddie Glad the PDF was of some use to you. I have always found that the 3BB technicians are very friendly and helpful. I once called them out to re-route the incoming fibre to a new entry point in the house. They were there for about an hour and after completing the task they said there would be no charge for the work, I thanked them and gave them both a decent "tip" and everyone was happy.
