Importing Luxury Goods

Featured Replies

I appreciate that many of these Brand Name resellers probably just stick them in suitcases and smuggle them in.

However, does anyone know what the "real" tariffs and import duties are on such items? And I assume it makes a difference if the items are new or used?

On new items is it 20% duty plus 7% VAT? Or more?

What is the Duty on Luxury watches etc?

Anyone can provide any links to Customs Agents who can sort out clearance and what sort of fees do they charge???

There is no one simple answer to your question because the tariff on watches ranges between 0 and 40 per cent, depending which country you import from.

Country imported from or original country of manufacture?

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Tariffs are based upon the original country of manufacture. The goods would be given a certificate of origin by the government of the manufacturing country, and that certificate would be given by the importer to customs at the destination country.

Since the country of manufacture of most brands of luxury watches are generally a well known fact there is not an easy way to get round this.
