I'm using all my strength to fight climate change, says Merkel

BERLIN (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a her New Year's message she is fighting climate change with all her strength to enable future generations to live in peace and prosperity.

 

"Global warming is real. It is threatening," Merkel said in the recorded speech which will be broadcasted on Tuesday evening. Rising world temperatures and the problems created by global warming are all man-made, Merkel added.

 

"So we have to do everything humanly possible to overcome this human challenge. It is still possible," Merkel said.

 

"At 65, I am at an age at which I personally will no longer experience all the consequences of climate change that will occur if politicians do not act," the chancellor said.

 

"It will be our children and grandchildren who have to live with the consequences of what we do or refrain from doing today. That is why I use all my strength to ensure that Germany makes its contribution - ecologically, economically, socially - to getting climate change under control."

 

Merkel called on Germans to think out of the box to cope with the challenges arising from global warming.

 

"To do this, we need more than ever the courage to think in a new way, the strength to leave familiar paths, the willingness to try new things, and the determination to act faster, convinced that the unusual can succeed - and must succeed if the generation of today's young people and their descendants should still be able to live well on this Earth," Merkel said.

Merkel's Modus Operendi has always been to stay quiet until she is sure which way the wind is blowing and then make out she was for it all along.

 

She is a slimy flip flopping political eel and probably the most insincere politician of all time.

She needs to have a talk with China.

Soooo, she's banning all oil fuelled power stations, cars, trucks and farm tractors, banning holiday air travel, and home heating using gas or oil, plus mandatory sterilization after one child. Isn't she?

German conglomerates want to make hundreds of billions on it so now these chauvinists are "fighting the climate".

Germany is subsidizing ones who'll start heating their house on gas (from Russia)...they still use coal and wood.

 

Holland is subsidizing houses to stop using gas AT ALL....they want to burn wood to generate electricity and use wind/solar power.

Unilaterally deciding, without even discussing it with her cabinet, to open the doors to 1.8m immigrants during 2016 - essentially saying "If you can make it across the Mediterranean alive, I'll let you stay" - added significantly to Europe's emissions, because typical lifestyles in Subsaharan Africa, Pakistan, and Afghanistan use far less energy than their new lives on the dole in Europe.

Note also her decision to decommission all nuclear power plants in Germany, a spineless gesture based purely on uninformed public sentiment. Nuclear has the lowest emissions per kilowatt of any power source, far lower than wind or solar.

As a scientist, she surely understands that, like it or not, any solution to climate change must involve nuclear power. Her decision tells you all you need to know about whether the elites consider climate change to be a real problem or simply a convenient narrative with which to whip their livestock into line.

Nonsense, why should she. To reduce the Co2 emissions doesn´t mean to go back to the stone age. Why do some people only think black and white? A possibility is to increase the effectiveness of heaters and engines.

She is the daughter of a clergyman, and showing it. "It is all manmade" she states, while this is completely unproven, and lots of evidence points to the contrary.

She want to believe in the fact that in a way we brought the wrath of god upon us, like a plague.

 

The only thing she SHOULD be doing is learning to live with a deminishing German population, instead of inviting the breeding masses from Africa into Germany, and send profilactics and birth control pills to Africa by way of third world aid, in stead of food and antibiotics.

Having that continent swell from a population of 1 billion to 4 billion in the coming years: Now THAT's a manmade climate catastrophe.

Germany perhaps but France is definitely at the bottom of the list, if not the smallest CO2 emitter in the EU (per inhabitant or GDP). 75% of its electricity still comes from nuclear power, fossil fuel energy is used almost only for transportation, contrarily to Germany that massively reopened coal plants to transition out of nuclear. 

She's hilarious. You can't fight "climate change". The climate has been changing on the Earth for billions of years. Sometimes it is hotter. Sometimes it is colder. What you CAN do is fight the pollution which is accelerating the change in an already unstable environment. And that begins by abandoning "economic growth" as a cultural paradigm.  The only way to genuinely stop polluting the biosphere, is to abandon our financial infrastructure that glorifies growth at all costs. Somehow, I don't see Merkel standing up to industry saying "stop making stuff" and concentrate on scaling back, lowering profits and building things that can be easily repaired rather than expansion and planned obsolescence. The German economy would collapse if that happened.

 

As we move into 2020 and I am taking a well deserved weekend of beer and contemplation, I become less and less tolerant of these hypocritical windbag politicians spewing platitudes while supporting the very system which is damaging the planet.
