PHUKET: More than 40 beach vendors evicted from the sands at Surin Beach before Christmas have appealed to the Phuket Governor to help them continue working on the beach.

The contingent of beach vendors, led by Phuket MP Natthee Thinsakoo of the Palang Pracharat Party, met with Phuket Vice Governor Supoj Rotreuang Na Nongkhai at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday (Jan 6) to file their appeal.

Also present to hear the vendors’ complaints were Phuket Provincial Office Chief Administrative Officer (Palad) Anupong Wawongmoon, Thalang District Chief Adul Chuthong and Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) Chief MaAnn Samran, among other officials.

If these are local village people from Surin Beach, yeah, stay. But if it is all these provincial immigrants from the surrounding provinces, screw them!

Has anyone looked at Surin Beach lately - the ugliest beach that I've ever seen on Phuket.

I would guess that they get around the % beach lounger rule by setting out cheap nasty folding aluminium "camp beds" in an unbroken, continuous, meandering line the entire length of the beach and presumably clearing them away at the end of the day.

A shame that the admirable Eakkapop  didn't snap a photo and include it in the article.

Didn't Surin have some kind of special status to protect it from this hideous exploitation?

The ugliest beach prize goes to Kamala Beach, now just a polluted brown from end to end from years of over development and the complete lack of sewage treatment. A sewer treatment plant is under construction which should be overwhelmed on day one.

The Surin Beach Orbortor MaAnn is responsible for this round of selling off the beach, picking up where he left off after the place was completely gutted. How that guy has been able to retain his job is text book case of everything that's wrong with Thailand. Sewage treatment there has been coming online next month for the last five years.

So it goes

Kamala is a great place to stay, but I spend my beach days at Layan or Nai Yang and my evenings at Patong - perfect!

PS: But at least, looking from afar (which is all I ever do) the vendors and beach loungers on Kamala do seem to keep to their designated areas.

So many jetskis though!

Sounds like they are aspiring to get the world class tag added to the resort like Pattaya????
