Koh Phangan: Slovenians arrested at pier after doing a runner on their bills!

Naew Na reported that two Slovenian tourists proved no match for Surat Thani immigration after they tried to flee holiday island Koh Phangan. 

 

The tourists  - in their forties - had failed to pay for their stay and food at the Blue Hill Beach Resort in Haad Rin. 

 

Police were notified on January 16th and a warrant for their arrest was obtained. 

 

Pol Capt Therdsak Thawatworakun waited at the Thong Sala pier for the thieves to show up which they duly did yesterday afternoon.

 

Mrs Indira, 46, and Dejan O., 44, admitted everything.

Naew Na said that chief of Surat Thani immigration Pol Col Supharik Phankoson revealed that they were acting under orders from IB chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang to rid Thailand of illegal foreigners and that the public should call 1178 to report infractions. 

 

Thaivisa notes that such rhetoric - always in an identical and formulaic manner - appears on all such reports by Naew Na.

Looking at their physical shape I cant imagine them running far.

Make them work to pay off their bill, and then arrest them for working without a work permit. Huge fine, a fortnight at the Immigration Detention Centre, deport, blacklist for ten years. Simple.

Agree the fines here are a joke. Make it hurt to remind other stupid foreigners. I think 100,000 baht would be a better fine.

50,000 Bht, huge ??? More like ten times that to avoid a jail term !

Pro Tip - if you are going to do a runner on a bill try not to be on an island with limited ways to get off. Just saying.

Ok i am friend from this 2 persons and i was there ...

1.Hotel want dont accepted credit card he booked by booking com, ..he dont run a way he was in 6 o clock in the morning in reception 1 hour wait there nobody was in reception and he goes......so in booking com you have credit card and hotel can take money from there (hotel dont want ok i was next day in hotel to pay also is not possibel ,,hotel told me he reports to police...i go to police to pay <deleted> 350 e only for sleep..(night) police also want money....police told me he must come here ...and i call him he came next day in island to police and he want paid..NOT RUN A WAY....OK <deleted> THAI PEOPLE....

2.he arrested hahahha he came from another island back and go to police paid becuase hotel manager is big <deleted> dont want money NOT FOR ME AND NOT FRO HIM ...

3 we go all together in police station give reports...how was to give statement as it was...

4 and after small rice police with 50 kg <deleted> tell to him he must go to prison both because you dont pay bills

5 i have see how big liens police ...about this story...

6 after came captain police forget name ...he tell ok how much money you have ....he paid hotel and paid normally 500 baht or you go to prison for 2-3 months hahahahha for 350 e ...but captain police lie now is change the law has been changed ...you must to me paid 150 euro...hahhahaa and he must paid to captain 15o euro and put this money in book ..and nobody must know about this...OK THIS IS ALSO CRIMINAL FROM THAI POLICE....after captain police made clearname by labtop..in few minuetes .... captain police bring this 2 to boat via koh samui...SO I WANT TO TELL THIS 2 SLOVENIAS DONT RUN A WAY ... POLICE STORYS IS BIG LIES ...AND TAKE MONEY WITHOUT INVOICE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT....

Thai's rip off tourist, over charge them. Tourists refuse to. Thai have local cops arrest them. Foreigners have to pay or go to hellish prison. What a democracy.

There is a reasons why most countries would never arrest someone for debt or an unpaid bill. It is not a criminal matter.

Apparently quite a bit of this happening on phangan right now. 

 

I have been receiving air bnb enquiries and all of a sudden people arent trying to negotiate price for a longer stay, but they want to incremental rents rather than out right.

No, its a criminal offence in Thailand to leave without paying for food, drink, accommodation .

These tourist  people did not get ripped off or overcharged , they were the ones doing the ripping off
