webfact
Govt plans tax on polluting construction sites to tackle dust particles crisis By The Nation Construction sites that produce too much dust will now face a tax as the government tries to tackle the dust particles crisis, the Minister of Finance Uttama Savanayana said. Patchara Anuntasilpa, director-general of the Excise Department, said that the department is working on this matter, especially a carbon tax that the government can charge from owners of motorcycles. The aim is to encourage entrepreneurs to invest more in electric vehicles. Moreover, the diesel excise tax structure is going to be reformed by expanding the range of diesel types from two to six. The measure will be a long-term solution, he said. Regarding the manufacture of electric vehicles, the government is planning to make a model scheme for it to enhance investment within three years so that the private sector can see a clear picture of the future plan and move forward with the public. The Excise Department will soon propose to the Minister of Finance an act for an electric vehicles fund to manage battery waste disposal. Under the new act, owners of electric vehicles have to pay a deposit for battery disposal at Bt1,000 per unit to help the fund and they will get all the money back after returning batteries for disposal to car companies. Popular Post CNXexpat
Set the import tax for electric cars to zero and you´ll get more of them. But because no electric cars are produced in Thailand and the import tax for them is around 200% nobody buy them. 6 1
Popular Post BobbyL
Construction sites that produce too much dust will now face a tax as the government tries to tackle the dust particles crisis How will this be enforced? Will they have people checking these sights regularly for their AQI? What happens if an important developer is producing too much PM2.5 and the, ''Do you know who I am?'' Thai syndrome takes effect?
Popular Post dallen52
Its called Asset Protection. Australia has a requirement that a permit is obtained before any work. Environmental, access points, roads, pavements, air and noise pollution. All have to be conformed to and damage made good before sign off on the final works...

Popular Post DrTuner
Construction sites. What excuse next, a flipflop tax for pedestrians? Of course the sugar industry and the farmers murdering SEA are untouchable. Edited January 23, 2020 by DrTuner 2 1
spinner2020
ALL construction sites pollute. Cement/concrete is the world's third worst polluting industry even before you take account of cr@ppy working practices in places like LoS. And electric vehicles are only as clean as the generation of the electricity to run them, which seems to have been conveniently forgotten almost eveywhere in the headless-chicken race to make Elon Musk richer.

What has conveniently been forgotten is the development of Gen IV nuclear reactors, because the greenies start farting blood by even the thought of it. "Greens" are the worst enemy of earth. The new reactors would solve the energy problems easily. Luckily at least Bill Gates is on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TerraPower 2

Luckily at least Bill Gates is on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TerraPower Yes, varying views on nuclear because when it goes wrong it goes very wrong. France depends on it, next door Germany is backing away. But if Bill Gates is anywhere near it, I'm against it. Try switching a nuclear power plant off and on again... Anyway, hydrogen is a more easily sustainable power of the future, 'cept there's not enough profit margin in something that occurs naturally. You would be surprised that those diesel do less than a normal car, otherwise they wouldn't be on the roads across the world!!!!!! One thing here in Thailand is the Freaking garbage dumps, their smoke stack are maybe 5 stories high and the wind just blows it down or across any apartment building near by. The stack should be higher n they could as scrubbers like they have else where in the USA. Clearly, who can be talking about taxes? The biggest one, the finance minister, while you're at it, charge salty taxes to all the factories that produce significant quantities of smoke that is harmful to health! It would make much more sense!

Redline
Curious what size is the particles are coming construction sites. If it’s concrete, rock dust, or dried soil, it seems that it would not be as dangerous as burning as the particles would be larger. I’m guessing it’s also a small percentage in comparison to everything else
