webfact Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Anutin not flying to Wuhan By The Nation Anutin Charnvirakul Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul has pulled out of the team flying to Wuhan on Tuesday to extricate Thai people stranded in the Chinese city, citing procedural difficulties. Anutin had said earlier that he would be travelling in the plane to Wuhan along with other officials and medical staff to bring Thais home, as he had been appointed by the Cabinet to take care of the situation. Anutin said 142 Thais are scheduled to arrive at U-Tapao International Airport in Chonburi province on Tuesday evening and he would be there to receive them. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already said that Thais arriving from Wuhan will have to be quarantined for 14 days, Anutin said. Popular Post mtls2005 Posted February 4, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 4, 2020 I think originally Prayut tabbed him to go. He's smart to find "procedural difficulties". You'd think a cabinet minister could overcome any difficulties? But the Minister for Health should not be leaving the country in the midst of so many public health issues. It might be one thing if he had any medical training. 3 2
DrTuner Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Whaaat, they need somebody who's 100% in control there, don't let the motherland down now. 1

DLock Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 The old fake out, after you convince every one else you are going and they sign up. Not unexpected.
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted February 4, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 4, 2020 I'm just guessing, if he had gone on the trip, he might well have been required to have a 14 day quarantine along with all the others upon his return... and that probably wouldn't have been the best thing for the country's Pub Health Minister at this particular time. 1 1 1

Well, he WAS the one who finally proposed suspending the Chinese visas on arrival program -- only to have Prayut shoot down his plan. Gotta at least give him some credit for trying...in a system where trying is not especially encouraged. 2
DoctorG Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Good decision. Any non-essential bigwig on that flight would only be going as a publicity stunt. 1

Reminds me of the ear medicine man, always full of bluster, some years back, on several occasions he found last minute excuses not to visit the restive South. 1 1

ParkerN Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Anutin not flying to Wuhan No fear - might catch something. Stay in BKK better.
observer90210 Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 He is not stupid as he is aware of the risks. But with all the Chinese that have been let in Thailand just for money, nobody knows what to expect. Better start to woo the retirees and expats who don't have the choice and are living in Thailand, as they are your last hope to (financial) salvation, 1

dcnx Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Of course not. He was never going to go because he’s a coward. 1
trainman34014 Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 What; a Thai Minister actually taking responsibility for an important job ? Not likely; let the Minnions die !
