webfact Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 Netizens criticise PM for ‘failing to show deep sympathy’ over mass shooting By THE NATION Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha came under fire for his handling of a press conference on Sunday after the mass shooting in Nakhon Ratchasima. Netizens have criticised Prayut for “failing to show enough deep sympathy for the victims”. Some said he acted more like a politician running a political campaign than one feeling sympathy and sharing sadness with the families of those who passed away or were injured. The premier later said he, like the public, felt sad for the great loss of lives. He said that he has a strong intention to boost public morale, however he sometimes acts in ways that might make people misunderstand his intentions or feel uncomfortable with him. Prayut has already asked all ministries to present to a cabinet meeting tomorrow (February 11) measures to help victims of the shooting spree. The premier will hold a conference this evening on plans to help the victims. Popular Post ThreeEyedRaven Posted February 10, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 10, 2020 Sympathy? Prayut would probably need to look up the definition, which for his convenience can be found in the dictionary somewhere between sh!t and syphilis, and is where he would probably direct anyone else looking for any. 4 2

Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted February 10, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 10, 2020 Is it even permissible these days to "criticize" the PM??? I thought doing so was pretty much verbotten! You know, Thai freedom of speech and all that.... 5

One Thai news channel was covering the events live (I only know it wasn't one of the mainstream channels). In the corner of the screen there were comments viewers had texted in. My wife told me there were numerous comments criticising the PM for not being there. Some suggested he go in and put himself in the firing line. One person followed up by saying if he ended up being shot, the shooter would go from villain to hero instantly. 5 17

soalbundy Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 What is the point, who does it help, politicians can normally push out a few crocodile tears if needed, got to play to the crowd, Prayut didn't, well done. 2 2
Popular Post Bassosa Posted February 10, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 10, 2020 Thai Twitter blew up yesterday with anti-Prayuth sentiment. It was crazy. Made me realise how many Thais dislike him. 3 3

I think that is a good and realistic point. Who of us cries about 5 or 20 or 100 people who just died and we didn't know them? It happend that I saw what I suppose was a dead body covered with a blanket near a traffic accident. What did I feel or think? Not much. Something like "it's sad" but I wouldn't cancel my dinner "only" because of this. Somehow some people expect from politicians that they show how sad they are. And at the same time they expect from the same people to be strong and to make perfect decisions even under stress. That doesn't really fit together. I remember all those crocodile tears of our former female PM. Is that what these netizens want? Cry me a river? 1 4 1 1

Before he got into his car, he put his fingers up shaped like hearts and geed-up the crowd like he was some kind of a celebrity messiah. The whole time he was smiling like a lunatic. That is not behavior synonymous with good leadership. That’s just uneducated, disgusting and narcissistic. 30 people just died. 17

Popular Post exparte Posted February 10, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 10, 2020 He is not even a good leader. He should have the event to praise Heroic efforts of bystanders who where checking on the wounded while shots where still being fired. He then should have used the candlelight vigil the next night to read the names off of those who had been killed and some details honoring the victims Life. He should follow that up with a speech to the nation about reforms within the Army that punishes commanders who are conducting business with subordinate military members; Then I would have the Head of the Army explained how the shooter got access to war weapons; Then he should talk about operational changes about how weapons and ammo stored on Military Installations. Then he should talk about compensation and support for the Victims. Then I would Direct Military procurement to buy some night vision googles; and get some training in counterterrorism tactics. Maybe even establish a counterterrorism unit that we all thought they had. 4 2
