PHUKET:-- The Australian Consulate-General in Phuket last Friday (Feb 14) hosted an event to celebrate cooperation on beach safety, and the handing over of a children’s book relating a story highlighting water safety that has been translated into Thai and will be handed out to local Thai schools.

Joining the event held at Patong Beach last Friday were Phuket Vice Governor Supoj Rotreuang Na Nongkhai and Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup.

Also in attendance were members of the Phuket consular corps, Phuket Hotels Association and Phuket Chamber of Commerce.

"Cooperation on beach safety" otherwise knows as training and information provided by Australian Lifesavers to their Phuket counterparts.

Good for all, hopefully some additional surf lifesaving equipment was donated to the cause.

Why the hell should it be donated?

Why shouldn't the Phuket civic authorities source life saving equipment themselves?

I didn't say donated by Australia, there are plenty of businesses in Phuket that could donate life saving equipment or money to purchase these items. Its quite difficult to rescue people without equipment, regardless of the source (state or private contributions). Most life saving clubs in Australia rely on donations and sponsorship to ensure that their volunteer lifesavers are equipped. Have a hell of a nice day pal.
