PHUKET: The death of a Myanmar couple’s newborn baby at a workers’ camp in central Phuket earlier this month has exposed the lack of support by government agencies in ensuring migrant workers have access to basic healthcare under the law.

Lt Phatkorn Pongpaiboon from Thalang Police was called to the workers’ camp, in Baan Lipon, Moo 5, Srisoonthorn, at 11pm on Feb 13 on being notified that a newborn baby had died at the camp.

At the camp, Lt Phatkorn and rescue workers met Myanmar couple Mr Ang Thu Lin, 24, and Miss Moe Khat, 24. Ms Moe was crying still cradling the body of her newborn daughter in her arms.

I did not read anything in your report that pointed to lack of available healthcare for the mother and child.

Children born without proper healthcare supervision are always at a greater risk of dying.

Of course it's very sad.

I'm surprised the Phuket Police didn't discover that the poor thing wasn't responsible for 4 murders, 16 hit and runs, 13 tourist necklace snatches, and a partridge in a pear tree.

I did, however, you have to  read the  article as per the link provided.

The Myanmar couple were told it would cost B20,000 to give birth at  the hospital they visited.   They could not could not afford to pay that amount, and went back to the camp to prepare  to return to Myanmar to have the baby. Worse, was that the baby arrived prematurely and  was alive for 13 hours.  IMO they did not seek medical help because they had no money to pay.  In effect the child was then condemned to death.

The employers should not be allowed to bring in migrant labour unless the  employer provides  some form of medical care plan.

The poor treatment of migrant labour in Thailand is explained here;

As the investigating officer, Lt Phatkorn said there were no charges to be pressed against anyone as he found no evidence of anyone responsible for the baby’s death.

Of course not. Thais are never wrong, even though as a society, Thailand in effect killed the premature child by denying access to  basic emergency health care.

I'm surprised that someone of your experience on the forum is unaware that the rules permit the reproduction of just the first three sentences of a linked article.

Before posting you would be better served by reading the full link.

No you explain...what is your source?  What countries are a part of your Western countries collection.  The thread is about migrant healthcare in Thailand.

Healthcare now a days is for the ones who can afford it. Anyone else who cant, just die.

It is all money regulated.

I think years ago if they where found to be pregnant they got sent home
