Anutin warns of govt invoking security act to deter student protests

Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul

 

Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul on Saturday (February 29) hinted at using the Internal Security Act BE 2551 (2008) to stop student protests against the government, in order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

 

 

He said that the outbreak of Covid-19 is an issue of concern to everyone, adding that a gathering of people will result in the spread of the disease.

 

“We have expressed our concern to other related authorities,” he said.

 

“I have informed Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan that they can issue an order because the Ministry of Public Health can only warn and ask for cooperation.”

 

He added that the Internal Security Act BE 2551 (2008) might be needed to control the protest to prevent the spread of the disease, but it depends on the consideration of those involved.

 

"If they don’t listen to our warning, organisers must take responsibility if the protest leads to the spread of the disease,” he warned.

Students gather online and plan a series of protests, solidify and unite.

 

Virus is blown away by songkran.

 

Students come out of the woodwork organised and united. With plans and contingencies.

There are large numbers of people in shopping centers also.  Let's not forget the schools and universities, better close them down as well.

What a wonderful "planned" threat! The Government is running scared and beginning to realise they no longer command respect of the people (if they ever did) so, order students to desist from their demos, using Covid-19 as an excuse. If they refuse, Government can do either of 2 things. Release true figures of Covid-19 infections and blame students, or bring in the tanks under National Security Act. Either way, the Government will be shown up for what they are, a useless crowd of money-grabbing charlatans!

Social media is rife with conspiracy theories that the virus was used to counter the Hong Kong protests. Test it in Wuhan on 11-million people, force them into quarantine. Then it’s on to Hong Kong which has 7.5-million. Quarantine the city, send in the military and reclaim the city for the mainland.

He's informed 2 army general what they can do. Obviously doesn't know nobody tells army general what they can / should do.

 

And at the same time he openly displays double standards about public gatherings, he's the guy who said the moto event at Buri Ram can go ahead, no danger in regard to spread of the conora visus.  hope the student leaders throw this fact right back in his face.

By citing fears that Covid-19 might spread due to large gatherings, this government once again shows how oh so caring it is, always deeply concerned about the people's well-being. I thought this situation was 100% under control? 
 

if you stop student gatherings because you’re worried about a spread, you’ll have to close schools, shopping centres, concerts and sporting events, etc. Also, if you ban student gatherings, you’ll spread panic and fear about this virus, because let’s be honest, stopping them from gathering has nothing to do with the virus.
