I have a pretty large elegant table lamp I'd like to use.

The shade has got wet and unusable.

Best I'd like to be able to buy the plasticated translucent stuff that goes sunder the fabric and buy some fancy fabric and give the earthenware lamp  good scrub.

Or maybe best to get it professionally recovered with me perhaps supplying the fabric.

 

I've a feeling it may be rather expensive ......anyone know a good place and what cost I might be looking at.

I know there's a place on the north side on the Ban Tawai Rd I shall check there first but seem to remember its pricey,

 

That's a very nice earthenware pot and base that looks good as a lamp.

You might consider a shade made from gra-daht saa - Mulberry bark paper.

It comes in a wide variety of colours, textures, and weights.

Same here. Obtained an shade lamp which was heavily discolored. Possibily due to humidity and sitting outside like they do here with items not in use.

 

The fabric is very thin now, but I decide to give it an bleach bath and it came out surprizingly well. But still want to renovate it with good strong fabric and garments in the future.

 

 

Hmmm didn't think of sea paper ......though it might pick up the dirt a bit easily and not like cleaning.

 

As a matter of fact I mounted a Japanese piece of art on saa paper on canvas recently.....the same sort of thing writ small could be good.

 

In any case I chose some fabric and am trying to decide whether or not to use the reverse side. What you think guys.

 

Oh I found just the place for lampshades in BT they make only shades for all the lamp makers.......only 300 bt for a 18 inch shade recovered.

 

Metropolitian I would avoid pleats again they'll pick up the dust.

If I have fabric spare which I likely will you're welcome.

It's at the back of a little shop area nearly opposite BKK Bank in Ban Tawai.

Lampshades and rolls of wrapping paper only.

They have a workshop somewhere else.

Definitely will get dirty.

 

How about a darkened lacquer few coats to make wipeable and give an antique effect.?

That woven fabric 'pillow cover' gave me an idea.

Have a few unused and nice looking sarongs here from Malaysia, which could be used for the lamp.

If they get dirty they will accept an soapy bath.

 

Heat from the lamp is not an issue which would deform plastic and degrade fabric 'flexyness'

because here we are not using incandescent anymore but led.

Would need to think about the pattern in combination with the trapezoid style of the shade.

To keep the pattern from misalignment pleats would be unavoidable. What do you think?

Just an idea. Having an artist (in your case an japanese artist) or yourself drawing art on strong rectangle-concave shaped canvas , which then you can make it fit on the shade frame by the shops.

Some calculation and measurement from your shade will give you the concave area for the artist.

Thanx for the research Metro Id had that second shape from you link in my mind the last few days  thinking how to lay out the fabric or whatever.

 

My Japanese artist is arriving later (Swedish ex prof of Jap art in China!) 

We will go to BT and ask at the lampshade worksop.

Thinking they've prob done paper before and learn what we can as the painting is best done before shade making.

I'll take a couple photos maybe.....stay tuned all.

Want to visit too Metro? 

Must be a week since I went to that shop, extra thick saa paper in hand to order the shade.

No call yet. (so much for business being dead)

Bated breath.
