Professional Caregivers for Elderly IN CHIANG MAI

Featured Replies

As old folks grow older and less independent --- but who wish to stay at home ---  they need help part-time or full-time help.  This can be provided by partners, other family and friends some or all of the time, BUT what are the options in Chiang Mai for hiring and managing assistance at home?  The needs vary, but what are the options for paid supervision or service with either visiting or live-in help?  Whom can you call and what services can they provide?  In Chiang Mai and its suburbs.

One nice lady is a member of this Forum - NancyL - has info regarding this.

If incapacitation is moderate or severe, there are places where you can reside and care is available onsite

My friend who passed away last year age 99, spent his last three years in the Susuwan resort and care home out in Mae Rim.

I visited once a week and while I have no formal medical qualifications I will say the care and attention he received was second to none. I got to know the young ladies who cared for him and they where a credit to Thailand.

He had 24 hr cover, all paid for by his son and apart from quibbles over food, Old Soldier and we all complain about fodder, I could find no fault from top to bottom.

The wife of Rob, Amy, at Sausage King has a good friend, Som, who is a trained nursing assistant and she may be able to assist finding a similar qualified nurse.

I do not doubt that one day I too will end up needing care and assistance so take interest in any board topics on the subject.

There are some Thai organizations that provide home care takers on a 24 hr basis.   They get some 3 months of training, can give basic care to bedridden patients, with or without feeding tubes, put in wheel chairs, bathe in bathroom of sponge bathe in bed.   The American across the street is bedridden after a stroke, uses a feeding tube.  Has a live in care taker for roughly 20,000 baht/month.

Ask a nursing home (e.g., Chiangmai Nurse, sort of across the street from Ruam Choke) for references.

Most interested to read comments in this thread thus far. We were planning to move back to Chiang Mai and bring my elderly mother with us. The Australian real estate market, amongst other issues, has thrown a spanner in the works as we must sell our house here first. In the meantime stuck here and exploring (viable) options for in-home care. It's a long shot, but does anyone here know of a kind Thai lady with nursing and/or aged care experience who can legally work in Australia?

My wife's cousin currently works as an elderly live-in carer in Chiang Mai. I could ask her if she works through a company who provide services or knows of anyone. If interested PM me.
