PHUKET:-- More than 100 local residents gathered at the Phuket Disaster Prevention and Mitigation College in Srisoonthorn yesterday (Mar 9) to rally against a COVID-19 quarantine zone being set up there.

The rally followed Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana last Friday (Mar 6) announcing the college was one of four areas had been designated as quarantine zones where arrivals from South Korea were to remain for 14 days before being allowed to roam the island.

Srisoonthorn Mayor Worawut Songyot yesterday said that local residents in principle did not object to the college itself being designated as a quarantine zone.

Why would Koreans even come here if they know they're on a auto quarantine list, surely you'd cancel your holiday?

The quarantine areas are being setup for the numerous Thais returning from working in South Korea.

Wot he said- its a very poorly written article as usual. I'm sure their resident 'expurt' will be along shortly with his wisdom.

A typical NIMBY attitude from local residents though. “The safest option is for the quarantine zone to be some other place, not here.” ????

They certainly think those people should be quarantined - but please why us?  bother other areas

Where have you been for the last week?

The quarantine is for Thai’s (many labourers and illegal workers) who are returning from South Korea under amnesty (from overstay and illegal stay).
