Info via AOT app required from inbound passengers at airports

The measure is to reassure both Thais and foreign travellers that Thailand is well equipped to tackle the Covid-19 outbreak, say minister Puttipong

 

Starting from tomorrow (March 12 ), all foreign tourists arriving at all international airports in Thailand will be required to download an AOT Airports application onto their mobile phones as a measure to contain the spread Covid-19 in the country.

 

The requirement also applies to Thai returnees from high risk countries.

 

The measure was agreed at a meeting of the Digital Economy and Society Ministry, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, the Immigration Bureau, the Department of Disease Control, Airports of Thailand and five telecom operators.

 

Once the app is downloaded, they will have to fill in the required information - name, surname, passport ID , mobile phone number, e-mail address and present them to the immigration officials on duty . The information will be stored for 14 days after arrival.

 

In the case of a virus-infected person, the information given will enable related state agencies to follow protocols.

 

The state agencies will also be able to trace and inform passengers on the same flight as the infected individual.

 

Digital Economy Minister Puttipong Punnakanta said the measure was meant to reassure both Thais and foreign travellers of Thailand's readiness in tackling the Covid-19 outbreak.

It certainly wouldnt stay on my phone any longer than required to fill out the form.

Well, it´s March 12th in Thailand already. So if you have to present that App after landing, it should be available already, but I haven´t found any other App. Did you?

No, because it's not on any of the stores, nor is it a workable solution.

 

IMO they should stick to the actual form that is designed for this eventuality instead of trying to catch up with this century at this point in time.

Agreed. Or they should provide cheap, pre-installed phones that you return on exit from the country. This way you cover those with no mobiles, and those who are not going to install an app that has total access to their private information.

I've tried the free wifi a couple of times, the word "shocking" comes to mind (could have just been unlucky). Also know there's still a few people that actually don't own a smartphone. Should add to the "excitement" of arrival ????

I do not have a smart phone and do not have any plans to get one anytime soon. 

 

There was an article on a big Thai Newpaper saying "Inbound arrivals face mandatory measures"

 

compulsory measures for all inbound arrivals, including notifying personal information and contact information such as mobile phone numbers and email addresses as part of steps to control the Covid-19 outbreak.

The measure will commence on Thursday and all personal information for inbound tourists will be kept in the system for 14 days after their arrival.

The information can be provided through immigration form TM8 or an application developed by the National Science and Technology Development Agency that can be downloaded from Thursday.

I do not and will not have a smart phone.  Thailand has already deterred me from semi retiring due to the paperwork, reporting, insurance, prices, etc.  No desire to be under anymore Big Brother system stuff.

Looks like you can do this on line too using an electronic version of the T8 form (the app only links you to the web page).  It's a poorly designed web page as it won't let you go past the first screen unless you tell them you've been ill which I'm sure isn't the intent.  A paper T8 form will do for me I think.

That's what I was wondering.  Hand the phone over to the immigration official, let them infect it, and then hand it back to you?   I think they probably will have you send it digitally but not sure how even that would work.

Not sure what I am going to do, i do not own a mobile phone ! Will I be banned from entry as I do not have one now ? Will mass tourists be sent home for having no phone on them ? That's crazy talk it being now mandatory to have a mobile phone for a Thai holiday.

my phone is about due to be replaced so i may just load everything into the cloud and buy a new phone after i arrive next time. This could be there way of implementing this as it sounds like what they wanted to do 4 or 5 years back.
