Looking to hire something slightly than a pickup something along the size of a ford transit van (which why don't behave here).

 

Car hire places don't seem to have them. Maybe an extended box pickup might suffice.

 

Any idea where I could hire one or one with a driver for a day?

Air Asia Car Rental shows the following available from Chiang Mai with Avis being the partner supplier. Emphasis on cargo van.

Toyota Hilux Double

or similar  Cargo van

 

 

 

Vans with drivers can be hired at Get Van Go, based in Chiang Mai. Google it and you will find contact details. Not sure about the size of the van.

Emphasis being on similar Cargo Van, give them a call and ask what's available in the fleet.

You might also be able to negotiate a deal with Chiang Mai Removals & Storage for using one of their trucks.

How do I turn the auto-correct off as keen to do.

Are you mad? I would never hire a driver here, they are about as competent as I am at neurosurgery.

If they don't kill you, the odds are pretty good you'll have white hair at journey's end.
