Any suggestions?

 

I gather that a virus can typically stay alive on banknotes for anything from several hours to several days. Given the lack of contactless payments in Thailand, banknotes are an obvious weakness in the hand sanitiser/hand washing/latex gloves routine.

 

I suppose you could wash them in soapy water, but that would get tedious every time you went shopping. Ditto applying alcohol hand gel to them, and that would get expensive, too, with the price they want for the stuff these days. How about pegging them out on the washing line in the sunshine for an hour, the UV is supposed to kill viruses? Can you kill a virus in the microwave oven, say cook your banknotes for 30 seconds on high? Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure how that will kill the virus, lol.

I keep a full bottle of hand sanitizer with me.

Spray liberally after touching notes which I keep in a small plastic bag in my pocket.

Yes, I think keeping them in a disposable plastic bag is a good idea. The gel I use is pretty thick stuff and I'd have to massage it into the banknotes, though I think just using methylated spirits has the same effectiveness, and at least that evaporates quickly.

Won't effect me much. Most of my life I have been almost cashless.

I  know its can be  expensive but ive found  burning mine sanitises them

I make sure I have the correct change if I can't use internet banking or credit card.

The whole financial system is changing to digital soon( I heard from former Minister of Finance, "Korn', so that is good(if you hold digital currencies).

There are several QR applications for low value payments which are available to foreigners.

 

TrueMoney and LinePay both work for me.

 

Also, take out cash from the banks now! I did 2 weeks ago to have a ready supply. This is even more important if you have money in a US bank. Big changes coming, don't listen to CNN pleading for you to NOT take it out.

There are some things you can't do as a foreigner (link a credit card being one), but the general functionality is there.

 

TrueMoney seems to allow everything.

Oh god so much work i have been senitiseing my piles of cash for hours now with the help of the missus and her family who get to keep the really dirty banknotes and still long way to go, what a drag to be so rich...

Put them out in direct sunlight for a couple of hours. Let me know when you are doing this, so I can come with my GF to help you.

Global financial reset to digital currency. No links but I've been hearing about for a couple of years, the powers that be were just waiting for a black swan event.

yes ....  I just finished sanitizing a heap of $100 bills I had stored in the cupboard. I usually exchange them as needed.

I often use exact change otherwise we carry plastic zip bags to accept change without touching it. Then clean at home.

 

Coins: place in jar with diluted bleach, leave for 30 minutes or more, make sure to shake once in a while to get the bleach in between all coins. The jar of bleach can be reused.

 

Notes: Use plastic food storage box of appropriate size with about 1 inch of colorless 70% alcohol. Place notes in 1 at a time and leave for 30 seconds or more. Remove, pat dry, then air dry.  (if you tell me your address you can also dry outdoors in the sun) Alcohol is stored in the box and reused.

 

I did try bleach on an old dirty 20 baht note. It looked like new after 30 minutes, then fell apart like wet tissue on removal from the bleach. Not recommended.

 

Send all your fithy money to me , every 100B note I get a will send the sender a freshly ironed 20.

Yeh I been doing the same to my cards, but was over in a minute.
