152 Thai returnees who refused to be quarantined told to report to officials by 6pm

Thai returnees from foreign countries who has arrived on Friday night and had refused to be quarantined must report themselves to officials by 6pm on Saturday (April 4), the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration’s spokesman, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, said on Saturday.

He said that 152 out of 158 people must report themselves.

“Those who live in Bangkok, Chonburi, or Nonthaburi can report to the Emergency Operation Centre of Suvarnabhumi Airport, while those living in other provinces can inform officials of Damrongdhama Centre of each province,” he added.

The spokesman said six people had on their own reported themselves and they were presently in quarantine at the places provided by the government in Bangkok.

“This is an urgent matter. If the 152 returnees do not act as stipulated in the government’s emergency decree, they will be in violation of the law,” he said. “Their relatives who have been in contact with them should also report themselves, while their families should quarantine themselves in their homes, as they are already in the high-risk group.”

So, they managed to get 6 out of 158 so far to do what they demanded that they do. And, the purpose of the quarantine is to keep them from potentially spreading the virus...so, what are the 152 of them doing right now?

Sorry it only recognises foreign faces.

Was a simple temperature test done on any of these people?

Not sure why you guys think that.  I saw this on Thai news yesterday and apparently, the PM is livid at these people.  The Thai gov knows exactly who every single person is, their address, etc.  I'm pretty sure every last one will comply.

The PM is livid with these people?

What about the officials that failed to act, should the disobedient travelers be arrested, don't the authorities have extraordinary powers at the moment.

Will the newly set up check points on the roads just allow people to continue if they don't feel like stopping?

Yes, 3 had elevated temperatures.

I think so as it was reported that 3 of them were running a fever before they were running away..

Press coverage has been poor, both English language newspapers were indicating that they all got on buses after a 4 hour discussion. Obviously, this is now evidently not true. Only 6/152 accepted the quarantine.

I wonder if the authorities fed them that as a cover up story.,..

Probably not, it was just a simple <deleted> up by authorities! Totally incompetent in the event!

Sorry, the bio-metric system is programmed to only recognize overstaying farangs... after someone has already reported them, of course.

Since the names and addresses of those on the flights have already made it to social media (leaked manifests?), I'm sure the authorities will be able to locate them. As much of a hassle reporting might be, I would hate to have to go into hiding for whatever period it might require.

Nothing. The usual response would be to do nothing.

Law enforcement here is about conciliation not enforcing vague & ill-drafted laws or regulations. Whence the need for monies to flow, in all directions.

It's about keeping everyone happy. Smi! smi! and be happy!

Naturally. Surely you didn't expect the police to actually find people... did you?

Silly boy.

Totally agree, the only people allowed to enter Australia are citizens or those with permanent residency.

Those people are met at the airport by Border Security/ Police/ Army and take to a hotel where they have to remain in the room for 14 days.

They have more than enough people in uniform here to do the job.

Seems the uniforms in Oz didn’t,t do the job with the Ruby Princess,or rather those in charge and not in uniform! 3 more deaths reported just now  in NSW believed to be from that ship.
