Video: Pesky pachyderm flips Mitsubishi pick-up in Chachoengsao

An errant wild elephant that the Thais have nicknamed a bit of a "bas***d" has clearly never heard of social distancing.

He stepped out of the wild in the Khao Ang Rue Nai wildlife sanctuary in Chachoengsao and used his tusks to flip over a Mitsubishi pick-up truck.

Inside the truck were a man and wife going back to Sa Kaeo province after making a delivery.

Fortunately the driver was only slightly hurt but his wife has a suspected leg fracture.

They told the press that the elephant got his tusks wedged in the cab of the pick-up before using its strength to flip the vehicle on its side.

Park officials said that the bull elephant was a new addition to the park and he was "lively".

In fact he has been so irksome that he has acquired some unsavory appellations.

Some call him "Jorm Deu" - 'deu' means stubborn or unwilling. Others call him "Tua Saep" that might translate to the expression "a right bar steward" or words to that effect.

In order to discourage the pesky pachyderm the park authorities are appealing for people on Route 3259 to follow the rules: no feeding of the animals, no sounding of horns and follow the 60 kmph speed limit.

The video does not show the pick-up truck being overturned by the elephant. The elephant is shown as wandering along the road next to passing cars, and then standing next to the pick-up truck which has stopped. Why did the video stop before the truck was overturned?

Maybe the flip happened to another pick-up some minutes after the vehicle doing the filming had driven on past it??

Sounds more like an excuse to cover up incompetent driving which was the real cause of the overturning. ????

Where are the tusks?

Building a road through elephant's home turf...what could possibly go wrong!
