Buying Beer

Why the hell would I need any of that. I’m just crossing the border not actually going anywhere, just crossing the bridge and coming straight back to get another 90 day stamp. Work permit? What planet are you on.

Planet earth, suggest you actually use Google to good effect, you ARE leaving Thailand and will NOT be allowed back again without any of this, ignore at your own peril.

No I’m not addicted to alcohol just like a cold one while watching television. It was just a question and didn’t deserve a constant barrage of verbal abuse.

No problem enjoying a cold beer, I do as well, personally I'd have no problem with however much beer you want to bring back, my advise was genuine and 100% correct.

Looks like I won’t need to bother now as I said earlier just got 24 cans.

Of course none of this would arise if the on line immigration 90 day reporting system worked.

As my 90 day trip is due soon at Savannaket that’s exactly what I thought.

I reckon they are open for trucks, fuel tankers and the like so why not cars.

I hope you're joking. You will be able to buy booze within Thailand LONG before you'll be able to cross into Laos and back.

90 day reporting is currently suspended, so if it is only a 90 day report you are fine, with luck the alcohol ban will be lifted next month.

No point planning for something you won't be allowed to do.

The borders will be closed to white folk for months, if not the rest of the year.

And if Laos did open, Thailand wouldn't let you back in.

Clearly wrong when we know that borders will be totally open within 2 months maximum.

Are you a troll?

90 day reporting has nothing to do with a visa extension.

No I’m not a troll and with my multi entry O visa/extension a ninety day trip is required, but, as others have said it’s not possible under current conditions. For the other prat that replied I don’t live under a rock but in a rather nice house.

I used a taxi before from the vientiane side of the friendship bridge to nong khai, take as much back as you want they never even check the boot.

The txi drivers are well in with the immugration officials. They pay them a small fee, believe its 20 baht.

Dont know what its like in savannakhet / mukdahan though.

Just to prove your all wrong except for certain locations my sister in law has just returned from Loengnoktha with 24 small cans of beer for me.

Hey, google reader, what border did she cross to get them?

Beer is still readily available for many within Thailand, despite being barred, but our OP was about getting it in Savannaket (sic).

I watch the television and read google. Not seen anything about all borders being closed.

What I did see yesterday was that certain provinces were lifting the ban on alcohol on certain dates. Yasothon, Roiet and others were today 17th, we will see.

So you didn't see the widespread reporting of the Government decree on 25 March? It took effect as of midnight on that date and is valid until April 30 (unless extended).

Among other things, it:

bars traveling into Thailand through its land, sea, and air border checkpoints, with several exceptions.

One of those exceptions is for foreigners with a work permit but from what you say, you don't have one.

So a border run is definitely out of the question. See link below.

Currently there is an official ban on the sale of alcohol here in Laos!!!!!

That doesn't necessarily kill duty free in various forms, but it could.  I am holding 12.13 liters of beer.  It will be interesting to see what Nonthaburi does, as well as the others currently listed as the ban ending on the twentieth..I hope so.  Tesco and 711 both look like they never sold any of it..hopefully, we can just follow the money, instead of being victimized again by the masters of shooting themselves in the foot.
