PHUKET: The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) this afternoon (May 15) issued an order for Phuket International Airport to remain closed, waylaying its re-opening that was scheduled for midnight tonight.

The CAAT only yesterday issued a notice allowing Phuket airport to re-open to limited domestic flights at 00:01am (May 16).

However, CAAT Director Dr Chula Sukmanop said in the order issued today, “Although Phuket is able to effectively control and stop the spread of the COVID-19, the situation is still considered a risk that needs to be monitored continuously to ensure that measures stop the spread of the disease to other areas and prevent the disease from spreading again in the Phuket area.”

There is always going to be the risk of  infected travelers passing through airports.

You going to shutdown forever?

Hmm, my ex at the airport hotel will not be happy.....

One guy putting down tape, two people watching.

I’m very sceptical about the real truth in this, were the airlines behind this ? Not enough seats sold, therefore requested that the CAAT extend the closure ? Would be a very easy and convenient way out for them..

Ah! An "open or shut" case! Perhaps a "cold case" review in 5 years time.

One must have gone to the toilet for a smoke.

Opening the airport without opening the bridge and Phang Nga and Krabi province wouldn't make a lot of sense and  both are locked.

More people in Thailand every year get infected with Dengue Fever  (8,147 three months in 2020) and die than from Covid-19.

There is no vaccine for Dengue Fever.

There is no lockdown for Dengue Fever.

They do not close airports for Dengue Fever.

Oh there is a 95% recovery rate so far from Covid-19 in Thailand.

Thailand should worry more aboutroad deaths and under age kids riding motorbikes.

are these contagious as the coronavirus is ???

No, but if Thailand is concerned about the safety and well being of Thai people they should concentrate on the causes that contribute to most of the death of their people.

Appx. 54 deaths Covid-19 95% recovery rate, appx 2800 infections

5,468 deaths road accidents.

Close the airport for what

People lose jobs

No money

Increases in the suicide rate.

For what?

Well said... Millions die every year of preventable non contagious reasons but that is not important and also not as convenient as this "virus"...
