The 20 minute test is only being trialled in the Uk with results of the trial due in about 6 weeks. So, some way before  being a done deal.

There are three minute tests, that have been pioneered by some private hospitals and health care systems in the US, because they were essentially abandoned by the Feds, or the Feds were too incompetent to come to their rescue. They used their own facilities and their own capital and ingenuity to develop them. South Korea also came up with drive thru tests. The technology is there. It just requires humility on the part of the administration, something they are in dire shortage of. However Covid has brought them to their knees, so maybe we will see some of it after all. Combine starvation for tourist dollars, with a major downturn in your economy, and Covid, and the powers that be just might get smart enough to look elsewhere for an easy solution to the international tourism question.

It means they are figuring out ways of making money from quarantine in the absence of tourists.

  • Seems it will be high quality quarantine for all  ? Welcom to Thailand but you stay 14 days quarantine before you are allowed out to visit the temples yes sounds like a real winner to revive

Seems the last on the list is foreigners with Thai families. Wish they would relax restrictions on that class of people so I can finally leave and get back to work without worrying I won't be able to

Can you support your claim that all the Thai nationals returning are poor, they have been working overseas

The wealthy return fast. The labour is waiting. It's common sense. Desperate waiting for cheap flights. The THAI IMO know who the business people are. Use your brain. These forums are full of simple media stories turned into farang wonderland lol.

These flights have no effect what so never on new tourists. These Thais will be locked due to mostly uneducated labour. Cleaners etc. Rich have complained poor conditions so these army genius have came up with a resort style. Has nothing to do with foreign future tourists.

So I take it thats a No then on your claim that all Thai Nationals returning are poor, as for cheap flights to Thailand your having a laugh there wouldn't be any cheap flights for a very long time

Most never went to school how  would they know about flights and logistics. I lived there for years all labour. Nobody cares they won't effect anything

I don't understand all these complaints. They're simple giving you more options. Don't want to be quarantined, don't come. Must come but can't afford luxury, stay at a cheap hotel or free one if still available. Personally, if I must be quarantined, I prefer paying 12k baht or so per night to be quarantined at St. Regis or other similar class of hotel.  If money buys luxury during quarantine, I'll gladly pay for comfortable king size bed, gorgeous roomy marble bathroom and top notch in-room dining.

I wonder how many tourists will come if they have to do 2 weeks quarantine before they start their holiday?

And, do they have to pay for the quarantine?

Even if Thai gov't pays for the quarantine hotel and meals etc., would tourists want to travel abroad for a holiday and be confined to a hotel for first 2 weeks.

And how many potential tourists have enough annual leave to commit to the above plus enough free time to justify the expense?

Married with my sweet Thai wife, in Thailand AND in my home country, for over 15 years now.

In thailand most of the time, we stay in a comfortable detached house, without direct neighbours, the building is my property, the land hers.

I have a yearly renewed retirement visa, with multiple re-entry for over 10 years now.

And I have for many years a very good, ...and expensive, healthcare insurance from one of the World's top "expat" insurance companies.

I am supposed to fly back to my home country in Europe, alone, mid-september for a 2 weeks stay, I have my plane tickets for (return flight) since February.

What about coming back to Thailand ...to my wife, in our house, at the end of september, 2020...?

When I last came back, on March 20th, no questions asked, nothing (I wore the top-level mask with virus filter), but I imposed myself a quarantine of 2 weeks at our home, and let myself be checked by a specialist MD at the end of it.

Though, as things are today, it looks like I won't have that possibily this time.

It seems clear that most international regular passengers' flights will, progressively, restart by the beginning of July. THAI (the only direct BKK flight), when and if still flying at all, would re-start its flights to/from my home country a bit later, with a reduced frequency.

But will that 14 days quarantine still be imposed in a same way by then? Piled up in an unhealthy jail-like crowded environment, or being made to pay high prices for the least of creature comfort? Is that it?

(Besides, what about the members of Thailand Elite, I am not one of, will they also be imposed a 14 days quarantine, in the same way, ...having paid for 1, at least, Bht.500,000 for a 5 years duration, or will they be allowed a special treatment, ...as if not an infection risk I mean?)

When you'd want to give it the time, I would like to read your opinion on this. Thank you.

"Salerno" I have reasons to be sad, don't know about you, but at least your reacted... It seems all the posters here always having an opinion and/or advice about everything are whether inactive at the time, or have no interest whatsoever in my question, oh well...

But who pays seems to be a bit vague.

it won't  be the Thai gov for falang that's guaranteed.. As in previous Post they are figuring out how to squeeze money... Its not new! just a "novel" method.. I'm outa this place asap.  I personally don't belive their numbers and I think they are following the China narrative.
