Cremating a dog

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a Temple in Cha Am / Hua Hin area that will cremate a family pet

One of our beloved Chihuahua's is not long for this life due to severe lung problems

We would prefer to inter his ashes at home rather than just dig a hole for the little guy

This is a worry for us too, when the time inevitably comes for our dogs. Horrible subject to write about I know.   We are planning to do it ourselves. as it's a fairly easy process, to construct a suitable apparatus (bit like an enclosed BBQ) and get the fuel necessary (needs to be a gas burner that can produce a temp of 1500 C), to ensure a full burn and being able to retrieve the ashes afterwards, for smaller dogs at least.  Local metal shops can construct just the thing, then propane and a regulator is needed. Thais are good at that kind of thing.   We did however bury our cat when she died 2 months ago, as we weren't ready with the kit in time for her. Sorry again for these details.  Sorry too for your family loved one. It is so sad when you lose a pet.

That is good, yes I know what you are saying.  I have these plans, but like you, I am not at all sure that I can do it.

On a related subject, if your puppy (they are all puppies for their whole lives) is bad, are you able to get the right palliative care and a humane resolution if the dog gets too bad.  I have heard that finding a vet to put down a very sick animal is hard to find here. I dread that happening to us and how we would cope, as I couldn't bear them to suffer if it can be avoided.

Our vet wont put an animal down due to religious beliefs, but will offer tablets to put the mutt to sleep.

After looking into this I find it a more cruel way than doing nothing.

Although the dog is asleep it takes up to 2 days to die in agony from the overdose.

Maybe I need to contact a Muslim vet down south to see if they can help out

Two years ago one of our dogs was very sick and slowly dying. We contacted a lot of animal hospitals and

so on.

Most said leave us your dog and we will cure him, yeah sure.

We had every test done on him including an MRI scan, paid a lot of money for drugs

and other so called cures.

He just got worse.

Finally we found an animal doctor who was willing to let him sleep forever.

Ironically it was the vet closest to us.

When he saw the dog he agreed it was the right thing to do,when i asked him why he would do it he said he was not Buddhist but Christian and believed it was the humane thing to do.

In our garden we have a special place where our lost dogs are, under a big rain tree.

I was told by one vet to get a party pack of Tramadol from the Pharmacy and feed the dog about as many tablets as you can get down them,  They die quickly and peacefully; maybe !!

well good luck getting tramadol from a pharmacy these days, what about 70% chocolate?

no problem getting Tramadol in my area, or Ultracet, both in plentiful supply, just have to provide ID and sign for it, no prescription needed.

Ultracet is only 37.5 mg of tramadol so you would have to give quite a few, not so many for a small dog of course

I fear my pup is heading in a bad direction also. Any chance of a referral?

Did it work ?

Tramadol is only what is needed to put a sick dog to sleep ?

Don't do it. If the dog vomits part of it, you will leave the dog in worse shape.

One of the most surreal threads that I've perused for quite some considerable time.  RIP to all of your dogs.

Please don't just take my word for it.  I was told that, but I am no vet. It sounds feasible for as painless death for a poor sick animal, but I would do my own research before trying it.

Losing an animal is always very painful.
On the advice of our veterinarian, we accepted the euthanasia of our little dog who had been faithful to us for 15 years.
It took a few minutes for her to definitely fall asleep.
It was impossible for us to see her devoured by all kinds of insects, and we preferred cremation.
It calmed us a lot.
But it was happening in Europe.
We always have his small urn with us.

Whatever you do with your dead dog, do not buy a new one, try to adopt instead !

Breeders are criminal and should be jailed for treating bitches the way they do !

You are good. I just wish that many more foreigners (at least them) buy a brain before buying any dog.
