What will happen to foreigners with expired visas after July 31?

As of other options, I don't feel embassies will issue letters again, should that be an available option, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

I seem to recall some time back that the USA and AU (to name couple) stated that they will not be issuing any letters in future. One could argue that with the length of amnesty granted by Thailand that those governments feel there has be and time to return.

For folk that (due to luck/timing) did not need to obtain extension to visa exempt, tourist visa etc could do that prior to July 31 and obtain 30 days.

So you have funds to support a Thai family. What is the source of these funds? You also have funds to commute between countries.

Why would you end up homeless if you returned to the UK, when you clearly have some funds.

If you have to return to the UK, then i'm sure your Thai family will have to look after themselves till you sort yourself out.

Don't be looking for excuses, especially when they make no sense. The UK, is one of the most socialist states in the world. If you have a national insurance number (which i'm sure you do if you are travelling the world), then the state will provide you with accomodation. If that takes a little time, use your funds to get yourself some temporary accomodation. You won't be homeless.

This last paragraph is a complete lie, people wait for months even years to get accomodation from the government.

You should go look up the amount of homeless living in the streets of the u.k, it rises every year.

The only time people get emergency housing is when they have kids and have been evicted from their accomodation, or they are troubled/at risk youths and even then its not for long.

You obviously dont have a clue about what you have just said.

Flying back to the u.k with nowhere to live is putting yourself on the streets, if you have no means to pay for it.

And by the way, i know because i worked for council housing.

If one has no money, what is one doing in Thailand, we have to ask ourselves.

Investing all the money in the wife's buffalo whilst on multiple entry short term visas for the purpose of visiting wife, for 360 days in a year, is not something the Government has a keen interest in.

Otherwise, they'd have banked 400k and be on an extension of stay.

If they don't have the 400K, as far as the Governenment is concerned, they should be staying back in their home countries, even if that means begging on the streets.

As of people that will scream "human rights", there is no such thing in Thailand, and it's best seen in how they treat the illegal migrants.

yes, and no... there was a very good and enlightening channel 4 documentary recently where ed stafford lived on the streets in manchester and glasgow alongside the homeless. homlessness is a big problem in the uk but there is a lot of help and support from both local councils and charities for the homeless. some people prefer to live on the street, some have accommodation provided but their addictions and/or violent behaviour means they disqualify themselves. those who are committed to helping themselves can often find the support and resources necessary to turn their lives around.

How is he funding his Thai wife and kid? He still doesn't disclose. One minute he says he will be homeless and then he is flying internationally, and supporting a family. With what funds?

One bedroom appartments in the UK. Never asked for a reference ever.  Simple request is usually a months rent in advance. The amnesty of no evictions is also set to expire, if it hasn't already.

You are way out of touch with reality of life in the UK .

Landlords these days not only ask for references , they also require to see proof of income , a guarantor ( a person who earns enough money and is willing to pay the rent, should there be a default in rental payments)and some also require six months rent in advance

It will be extended.  Your head as a farang will always be counted in thb from the authorities. If they can’t have other tourists they will for sure have these tourists.

And block all outgoing at the same time. Then the only question is how to get the last baht out of these enforced "tourists" and throw them out only after that. Brilliant scheme. TAT will name it "extra elite", I'm sure.

With the strength of the baht and how the gbp is at the moment, lots of retirees, people on marriage visa's etc.... just simply cant afford the year extensions anymore.

I know quit a few people who are struggling and also have no home back in England.

Yes maybe they should have the money to stay here, maybe they should have money saved. But alot of people dont.

They where already financially crippled with the depleting exchange rates.

I know the thai government doesnt care, but you need to understand people just cant go back to rhe u.k or whatever country they are from and they will be fine.

I wouldnt be surprised if this situation makes alot of people just go into overstay as that is there only way left.

Or if the borders were open go to a cheaper neighbouring country, which some people have already before the covid 19 situation. Anyway im going off topic.

Its a bad situation for people who cant afford the means to live back in their home country if they have to go back.

Excuses and utter nonsense.

Again, completely out of touch .

A single person will NOT get any social housing at all .

If you have Children to take care of , the Council will put you in a room in a dingy hostel and you will stay there for years , even if you have four kids in tow , the Council will put you in an emergency two bedroomed accommodation whilst you wait on the list for Council accommodation to be available . a single person will get no help at all .

If you have nowhere to live, you cannot apply for benefits and you cannot even go and see a Doctor if you have no address .

Unfortunately,  those on marriage extensions are also not exactly what this government want. Extending ad nauseam is not the correct way to stay in the country full time. If being correct is important you should apply for permanent residence if you can afford it. Quite straightforward and the requirements are reasonable.

Well, Cambodia is a bit cheaper, if one cannot afford Thailand anymore.

At the end of the day, anywhere in Asia, they would be living on short term options, because the reality is, they cannot afford real residencies, or such residencies are not available, or some countries do not give them away that easily.

you guys are crazy considering overstay. guaranteed the authorities are waiting and ready to come find people on overstay come august 1. they know exactly where everyone is. isn't being caught by police even if 1 day on overstay a 5 year ban??

Thank goodness for Thaivisa Forum. It's nice to find out that I'm not the only one worried about the visa amnesty ending. The biggest concerns for me are:-

a) On July 31st - Will the land borders be open to cross?

b) If land borders are closed - Will there be flights to nearby countries, or will they be fully booked?

c) If I manage to get a flight to a nearby country are the Thai Embassies open for business there? I want a non imm O visa.

d) When I fly back in to Bangkok - Do I need to spend 2 weeks in quarantine? How much is that?

e) Do I need any special health insurance, covid 19 test, fit to fly certificate for flying out and back in?

f) What is the cost of all this just to get a 90 day visa?

g) Is there a cheap option?

I read some visa agents still offer visa runs, so some land borders must be open.

Absolutely. The "extension denied- must leave within 7 days" @1,900 baht will always be an option.

That may be the situation. I will wait to hear the cabinet decision. Maybe they will say something next week.  We'll see.

My answers would be :

A/  NO

B/ Flights to many places already, you can fly out anytime you want.  But destinations are not all.

C/ Nearby countries are mostly in lockdown, you will have to fly somewhere thats open, like EU, Turkey, Dubai, USA, Korea etc..

D/ Yes, but you need a COE before you can board the flight.  COE will only issued in your home country and only if you married to a Thai or have a work permit etc...

E/ YES

At this stage you have probably given up................. so no point in F and G.

sadly i'm hearing anything short of full citizenship is frowned upon these days by the powers that be. fortunately citizenship is also quite straightforward to obtain and a quick perusal of "one hour thai" and a couple of singing lessons should get the applicant through quite easily.

Going to try one more option - Send the wife to immigration next week and get her to ask them what to do?

The Thai government has not ordered foreigners to stay until 31 July. The general idea was that the foreigners who wanted to leave should have done so while commercial flights were still available or on one of the repatriation flights organized by many countries.

Extend for 60 days for purpose of visiting wife whilst you season the 400K, for your 12 month extension.

That's what they might tell her.

With my limited knowledge of the English language, every time I have been given a stamp from Thai immigration in my passport with a permission to stay or an extension of stay until a specific date I have taken this as on order to leave Thailand no later than the specified date.

You, on the other hand, seem to interpret the current automatic extension of stay until 31 July to mean that foreigners can remain indefinitely, because the government has not told them explicitly to leave Thailand not later than 31 July.

Did I, perhaps, misunderstand you?

Whatever they decide- I am NOT leaving. Officially.

USA isn't open to foreign tourists at the moment. So that's a no go. Europe is mostly OK though.

Good luck with that, there's an immigration 'snitchline' that pays rewards.

If you so much as check into a hotel for even one night where they see your password then expect an early morning raid the following day.

The above sounds a little far fetched but it's already happened and was reported here on this forum.

Good luck!

The misunderstanding arose when you wrote

Good idea, but I have an even better solution. I'm going to immigration to apply for a 60 day extension, (thai child) on visa exempt. I have a 14 year old son and as far as I know all I need to take with me are :-

  • Original birth certificate plus signed copy.
  • Signed copies of the child's Tabien Baan.
  • Signed copies of your passport pages: ID page, visa, entry stamp, departure card.
  • 1 x photo 6 x 4.
  • Maybe a TM30 completed by the owner/house-master of the address you live at.
  • 1,900 baht.

I've been scouring the internet all afternoon looking for a solution and bingo, at last a way out. Hope this information helps others who have children out here.

Night all, time for a beer.

No normal people that has the option to travel the world because they have the funds to do so, or are working in other warm countries and can’t get back to their <deleted>hole European country, would even think about waiting a possible departure out on any airport in Thailand.
Is that so freakin hard to understand. Sleeping on the floor for a week or two paying 4 times the price to get home or stuck another place.

If you would put yourself in that situation to go to a <deleted>hole state in Europe compared to what the relaxed and good thailand is, I would have to consider you dumb.
