I conclude from these pages that emoticons probably serve a useful purpose, if they didn't exist many people wouldn't have any contribution to make whatsoever and TVF would cease to exist.

 

I also get the idea that the majority are in favour of short sharp exchanges that don't involve too many words or much mental effort. The minority who want to and can explain a subject in detail are going to be the subject of good natured banter with many, as in this thread, bordering on mean spirited attacks.

 

It looks as though, for the most part, Posting Content and General Conduct Rules are ignored or no longer apply, points 7, 8, and 9 seem to be ignored, especially the idea of treating other posters with respect.

You didn't get it, did you! The thread was not about objecting to peoples posts and what they had written, it was about the use of emoji's as a proxy for what they could have written! Perhaps try reading the thread again.

I think those who post well thought out comments get by and large positive emotis. Where as, those who post rems of bs and negative comments get negative emotis. People get tired of some posters having nothing good to say and dump a emoti on them. Why respond to junk?

The emoli are a way to show agreement or disagreement. There are some people that I often agree with and some that I don't. Its no big thing unless you make it so. 

With high negativity on this board. I'm surprised there are more negative emolis.
