Popular Post Sundown
So what's the difference from the visa amnesty. Visa amnesty was not an extension, was itself a grace period. So another grace period of 2 months where you can either leave or pay the bribes. Grace period = Visa amnesty extended another 2 months Sorry for the "go home" squad. ???? 3

The implied difference is that there is a specific end date within which time to take some initiative rather than sit tight in the expectation of even further "amnesty".

AndyPa
Could very well be that we will have to pay overstay fees starting July 31 until we extend our visas.

There is a cabinet meeting next Tuesday. Nothing official as yet. Since the start of this circus, the Thai authorities have pretty much followed up and officially promulgated all the proposed rules and regulations that were pre-released by government functionaries and before their being discussed at cabinet level. I can't see why those 'stranded' in Thailand feel so hard done by as every machination of Thai immigration has been telegraphed well ahead of the event. The ones I despair for are those with families and homes in Thailand who are truly stranded outside the country and are having difficulties making basic contact with certain Thai Embassies and Consulates while others appear to be at least answering the phone or emails. AndyPa
I doubt that they will allow you to buy visas like at the embassies or consulates. They call it "visas", we call it "entry stamps". Same thing to Immigration. It means you have until September 26 to get your legal status. Either an extension (if you qualify) or whatever.

Popular Post Benitostacos
According to an article in the BK Post the IB chief had the following to say.... "He said the Interior Ministry's visa relief measures for foreign visitors would be submitted to the cabinet for approval next Tuesday. The bureau would later issue guidelines on how to apply for a visa extension. He said those who planned to return to their home countries did not need to contact the IB but also had to leave Thailand by Sept 26."

Basically means if you came in on a 30 day entry, got stuck and are under amnesty you will need to be in the posotion to apply for an extension of stay be it because you are 1 married 400,000 in the bank or income proof. 2 over 50 single 800,000 in the bank or income proof. Anyone who has an ongoing extension just carry on as normal with 90 day reports and re-new as you normally do every year. If you are not in the position to apply under the above ( there may be other ways ) then it looks very like 26 sept' is your leave by date. Just a mull. Mr Meeseeks
To echo some of the previous posts, I think if you don't have a proper reason to be here that fits into the current visa system, e.g. you have been offered a job, you are married, etc. then it's bye bye to Thailand for a good long while.
