Is anyone familiar with whether Thailand have started using this yet?

e.g. New Zealand have been for a while now but UK are not until November this year

id like to submit some cards in Thailand so would like to know if anyone else is already using the system

im pretty familar with how the system basically works, my question relates to when i can start using it here in Thailand

or does my UK handicap need to become a WHS handicap BEFORE i can start to use it?

thanks

Pattaya Sports Club for example use the USGA system and were supposed to change to the WHS but that appears to have been delayed. However the change won't make that much difference.

I don't know the Birdie system  https://birdie.in.th/en/blog/news/world-golf-handicapping-system--520 but that is a growing option.

thats a good question

id like to submit my scores to my UK club and get them adjusted

i have done that but there seems to be confusion as UK are not up to speed with WHS yet as per NZ

thanks for the info in Birdie system, i assume thats a way of me maintaining my UK handicap in Thailand?

Ideally id like to have it all under one roof and that may mean me waiting until UK and Thailand fully embrace the WHS

then when i turn up at any club i can just enter my number into the computer(or a mobile app) and it will work out everything for me both before and after the round

Cheers

get online a member of thai golf association for baht 360 year and report your scores easy online. they're on the usga system. when you want to play a tournament, just print out your hc certificate.

very convenient...

One of the problems facing the new system in Thailand is that most courses have not had their

SSS certified from the beginning let alone adjust every day for conditions, as they will not pay.

Along with that many courses have made major changes to their holes without being reassesed.

I believe that next year will see "burgler year" in competitions where you play outside your group

with same handicap conditions.

Sad, as this was supposed to be fixed 5 years ago

The TGA ( Thai Golf Association ) do use the WHS to the best of my knowledge, BUT it's absolutely pointless maintaining an official handicap in Thailand as the majority of golf clubs ( I'm not aware of any that do ) do NOT conduct member competitions like those we farangs are used to. In fact all the local tournaments generally use system 36 for the day. The tournaments run directly by the TGA require official handicaps, and they are generally only open to the elite Thais who can afford to play in them.

The TGA handicap system is a joke actually, because you don't have to return score cards to them. You pay your TGA membership fee and then login to their web site and input your scores yourself. Completely open to dishonesty by members, PLUS the TGA do not have every course in Thailand listed in their database as most courses refuse to pay the exhorbitant fee the TGA wants to do a curse and slope rating for the course. So the TGA just gives a course rating of 72 and slope of 113 to those courses, and then ONLY if someone submits a card for input. An absolute joke the way they operate.

The only tournaments I've played in here in Thailand that require you to have an official handicap are those that are run annually by GolfAsian & Go Golfing Australia in Hua Hin, Pattaya & Chiang Mai.

As for the golf society I play with, I'm the handicapper and I've created spreadsheets to calculate handicaps using the WHS. The Thais in the group are ecstatic about that as they now have proper handicaps, and can now show a playing history if they play in a tournament that requires a handicap and proof of that handicap.

I'm not sure you can transfer your UK handicap into the Birdie system just like that. Google it, you'll get several hits.
