A Thai wife's tears: British husband killed as he takes brother-in-law monk to the temple

A distraught Thai wife has spoken to the media after her British husband was killed while taking her brother-in-law, a monk, back to the local temple in the Phimai area of Nakhon Ratchasima. 

 

David, 70, was riding a motorcycle with sidecar with Phra Wasan, 59, along the Phimai to Chumphuang Road when they were involved in a collision with a Nissan pick-up driven by a Surin woman. 

 

At the scene the British man's 41 year old wife Kanjana was in tears and in shock. She said that shortly before her husband had left the house for the five kilometer journey to the temple of Wat Mai Suntharikaram. 

 

David was dead at the scene from severe head trauma. 

 

Phra Wasan survived but has two broken legs. 

 

Sukanya, 43, driving the pick-up said that she saw the motorcycle with sidecar ahead of her. They moved to the right and she was unable to brake in time and avoid a collision. 

 

She had no dash cam.

 

Phimai police are investigating.

Tragic, a poor man has lost his life, due to the carelessness of a woman driver.

Claiming to be unable to brake BS, was probably too busy on her phone.

What more can one say.

 

Speedy recovery to the monk, but looking at that photo of one of his legs, it looks like it is going to be a real slow recovery for him.

 

Sorry for the deceased wife to have to deal with his sudden passing, let it be a warning to all, if your going to be on Thai roads, you need to be in a car at the least, and then, it's still dangerous because there is basically no law enforcement out there, shame on the police.

Sad that the guy died in such a way and the driver if she hit him from behind is guilty. I do wonder if the guy wore an helmet. Because they mention the severe head trauma.

why would you make the assumption she was in the wrong when you have no data

whatsoever ?

he could just as well have cut her off, not even bother to look if he was cutting someone as he decided to cut a lane

i think the biggest culprit is the cutting of lanes,

there is no understanding of right of way here

yes, and just perhaps he cut her lane wouldnt you be able to comprehend ?

it is far more likely then that she was ramming into the bike 

if he was driving straight forward sticking to his lane.

it falls upon his duty to first look and make sure he isnt cutting anyone 

if he wishes to change lane or make a turn into a side road,

this all boils down to right of way, he dont have the right of way

in any other lane then that lane he currently occupy,

no signalling or proceeding with caution will ever give him the right of way

into a new lane, he must wait for traffic to clear

i have no preference, in another thread where a truck crossed 4 lanes

and a falang struck him in that maneuver i put the burden on the truck driver,

i default on the blame on whomever doesnt adhere to right of way,

in the 4 lane story, the truck driver admitted he was crossing all four lanes,

leaving no lane for the biker, and in this case,

i suspect the scooter to have crossed into her lane

Its quite possible that the car driver wasnt paying attention to the road ahead of her and went straight into the motorbike .

  Has it beeen established yet whether the two vehicles were going in the same or opposite direction or whether the bike was moving or stationary ?

she rammed into him in the behind, that is not likely to be the case if he was sticking to his lane

all along, more likely is that he at the last second turned into the right lane

when she was overtaking

Its also just as likely that she was speeding , not paying attention to the road ahead, had the sun in her eyes and didnt notice the motorbike which may have been stationary  waiting to turn or turning .

Shes hardly likely to say to the police officer : *I was going 130 KPH down a small road and trying to reply to a text I had just received when BANG , hit a motorbike which I didnt see* , now is she
