A rescue team on Sunday found two bodies while three people were still missing in the Samui boat accident on Saturday.

Around midday on Sunday, rescue team members found two dead bodies. One was the captain of the boat, found without a life jacket at Mod Dang island approximately 1.8 kilometres from the scene of the accident, and the other was a salesman whose body was found on Koh Tan island, which is adjacent to Mod Dang island.

Earlier in the morning, two people were rescued alive while the team plunged into the waters to find three missing people amid strong winds.

1.8 kilometres from the scene of the accident,

What did the boat do there, it's way of the normal route.

Other reports said that the currents carried them from the boat sinking to the islands

Strong current from the Western/North West monsoon, which is common this time of the year and the cause of the weather right now, might well have moved the corpses. The ferry is reported to capsize between Koh see and Koh Ha, some five kilometers from Lipa Noi Pier.

How are they going to collect the garbage? It will be washing up on the island beaches in a matter of days...

And then the resort managers will hear the complaints from the guests...

The garbage should never leave the island and put it at risk for potential ocean contamination...

Koh Samui has enough generated waste volume to justify an incinerator...terrible waste management practices....

this is a high risk incident rather than an accident and will continue to be so...

Yes it's much better to put in a land fill which they been doing since the incinerator blew up 2008.. Seriously of course a lot better to ship the garbage to the mainland until there is a incinerator running on the island. Of course it's very bad that all this garbage ended up in the sea but there are ways to retrieve it. Same as the fuel and the oil from the sunken ship and the trucks on it. This is the first time a ship of this size sunk here. Stop to ship garbage to the mainland because of that? Ok but then no fuel trucks should be allowed either as they pose a much bigger threat than garbage. Then we can go back to horse and carriage.. It's an island we need sea transport as a fish needs water.

After taking these photos on a ferry that took me to Koh Samui, the sailor in me (sailor's son and grandson) had nightmares for three days ????

But the article states "Mod Dang island approximately 1.8 kilometres from the accident".

I believe that ship was on the way to Khanom

I cannot say which route, but articles have stated between Koh 4 and Koh 5, five kilometers from Lipa Noi...

They do have an incinerator...It just hasn't worked for years and no interest is shown in getting it repaired.

Your comments are a tad naive.

Do you know how much garbage, industrial waste and toxic rubbish is shipped daily around the world? There are container ship-loads traversing the oceans daily.

90 tonnes is the equivalant of a flea on the back of an elephant.

"And then the resort managers will hear the complaints from the guests..."

What resort guests? Thailand has not allowed tourists in for months.

"Koh Samui has enough generated waste volume to justify an incinerator...terrible waste management practices.... "

Samui does have an incinerator. It just does not have a budget to repair it because very few people pay the 'garbage collection tax'.

Usually ferries have maintenance! And at 50 +years old they are usually scrapped.
