PHUKET: Officers at the Khao Lampi - Hat Thai Mueang National Park have reported finding another nest of leatherback turtle eggs, the fourth such nest found in the area in recent weeks.

The nest was discovered around 6am this morning (Aug 9) by Mr Wicheing Chupan, a National Park officer who was inspecting the area.

"The nest was found about 50 metres from the beach which is far from the front of Khao Nayak about 1.5 kilometers,” Mr Haritchai Rittichuay, Chief of the Khao Lampi – Hat Thai Mueang National Park told The Phuket News.

Why don't they just leave them alone, and why does it need to be reported where the beach is?

Before firing off at this its well worth reading the original article.

If you bother to read the story it will become clear as to why.

Saying the nest was in danger because of high tides or stormy weather is rubbish, the eggs are laid deep in the sand, if that was the case the whole beach would be wiped out.

Moving turtle eggs is not the best option, disturbing them, disorientating them, not replacing them exactly how they were found will increase the mortality rate drastically.

Just leave them alone.
