MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines' health ministry on Thursday reported 4,002 more novel coronavirus infections and 23 additional deaths in the country.

In a bulletin, the ministry said total number of confirmed cases in the Philippines had risen to 147,526, the highest in Southeast Asia, while confirmed deaths had reached 2,426.

The Philippines plans to launch clinical trials for a Russian coronavirus vaccine in October after Russia became the first country to grant regulatory approval for a COVID-19 vaccine, drawing safety concerns over the frantic pace of its development.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier announced that only a limited number of foreigners are allowed to enter the country due to the current travel restrictions in place. Among those individuals are the following:

  • Foreign spouses and children of Filipinos
  • Visa holders
  • Dependents of foreign officials

The PI and Thailand share something in common.
They kill a lot of people on their roads.

In the PI they average about 40 per day.  Now...

Why can a virus the kills 3.5 times less people than traffic accidents shut down the country and the economy while the death on the roads hardly get a wink and a nod?

That paradox isn't limited to either the PI or Thailand.  It's pretty much global in scope.  It shows hypocrisy that is deeply embedded into the fabrics of both global governments as well as societies.
