a too had a disgusting experience last week

though the bill wasnt huge, I asked if my insurance covered the treatment, they confirmed to me both on the phone and at reception, before doing a uturn afterwards saying my insurance didn't cover it and asked me to pay. I walked out refusing to pay and they called me offering to halve the bill.

government hospitals are the way to do it. these private hospitals should be named and shamed for the scams they perform

Government hospitals in my experience will also try to scam you by going to any length to keep you in their bed,

I spent a week in such a hospital and never seen a doctor, in the end i signed myself out,

but could not get in a gov hospital that morning.

Please explain that comment, you are being extremely careful not to actually explain your condition, why?

He was not concerned about dengue because symptoms not same. The mozzie borne he was concerned about are extremely rare in Thailand. Well apparently concerned about...

Their con about charges and lie by a doctor shocked and disgusted me.  I will never go near a private hospital again. Pity they cannot be named because of defamation law.

Whatever it was has cleared up now, no more bouts of feeling oh so ill. The doc put it down to a transient bacteria and yet insisted on testing for these mozzie borne diseases. Live and learn.

I tried to get into a gov hospital that morning to have blood tests but was turned away because they were full. Hopefully my long post explained what happened later.

A Thai woman renting a house from a friend had a broken leg. The doctor told it was necessary to put in plate and pins, roughly 300k.

The woman refused the treatment, left the hospital and went to another one. She can not have had much pain.

There no issue, cast done and it healed well.

To be aware, any hospital / medical practice is a profit orientated organisation. Some overdo it.

Exactly.

Reminds me of the phrase 'never underestimate the gullibility of your patient'

Many thanks for info.

They quoted 7 K for 2 nights but did not say or reveal other charges as apparently they are required to by law. Total bill 36K.

OTT. Not just that but the con and lies...

OP, I am afraid that your experience is not unusual here.  For every good story of excellent medical care (sic), I hear many more of poor service from under trained staff and from doctors who just don't know their stuff. over medication and unnecessary expense Living here is  a very real  medical risk for every expat and visitor , not because medical care is not available, but because it is second rate in so many many areas of the country and too expensive for very many to access in the big Cities.  Paying large amounts doesn't mean you get good or better service. If you are Thai, it is thousands of times worse.

I am not trying to do a runner on the bill. Insurance dealing with my claim.

What disturbs me is the lies. Doctors should not lie.

What lies spit out.

Looking for a lawyer and intend to negotiate nicely.

You got insurance so what is the problem. They will pay for it. Dr'should not lie but you have given only limited data. Not even what disease they thought you had. Seems like your hiding a lot. In my experience Dr's will try to inflate a bill if you let them. They wanted me to stay overnight for something. I did not and i signed some paper and it was done.

The fact that you got insurance should be enough you are getting the money back. What is the problem. You should have asked to be signed out.

You could have checked out you just had to insist. But DR's need you to sign out otherwise they can be charged too.

If it was 36k then a lot of tests have been done too. Seems they were worried and you felt ill the first day. So seems they did the right hing.

Or anyone know a good lawyer? Thank you in advance for your help.

I take it you didn't have private health cover, perhaps if you had such a cover, you wouldn't have to be as stressed as you are now.
