I am not trying to do a runner on the bill. Insurance dealing with my claim.

What disturbs me is the lies. Doctors should not lie.

  • no doctor can force you to stay in a hospital if you don't want to, they can sign you on a release form that protect them from lawsuits and than let you do whatever you want, how did you get into this

It seems you think we should all support you, the unknown newbie. But you don't provide any details. Maybe the hospital was right. Maybe you didn't listen. How should we know.

  • how bout paying your bills and stop <deleted> it for the rest of us.

a too had a disgusting experience last week

though the bill wasnt huge, I asked if my insurance covered the treatment, they confirmed to me both on the phone and at reception, before doing a uturn afterwards saying my insurance didn't cover it and asked me to pay. I walked out refusing to pay and they called me offering to halve the bill.

government hospitals are the way to do it. these private hospitals should be named and shamed for the scams they perform

Government hospitals in my experience will also try to scam you by going to any length to keep you in their bed,

I spent a week in such a hospital and never seen a doctor, in the end i signed myself out,

You claim the doctor lied to you, how do you know?

Are you a qualified medical professional?

Maybe post what your claims about lying are.

Difficult to say anything regarding your case as you don't give any details. I have not heard of such government agency, but any claim is likely to be pointless anyhow. The core issue here is that people have gotten the wrong idea that medical services are cheap in Thailand, they are not. Right now getting treated in France would cost you less, while the places like Bumrungrad and Bangkok Hospital will charge you as much as hospitals and doctors in Geneva.

Also @Sheryl recommends a minimum heath coverage of 3 Million Baht for those who stay here.

Disagree, Thai government hospital is generally very cheap.

But in a Thai Private hospital specialised in ripping off foreigners the sky's the limit.

Without posting any clear details of what happened you won't get much sympathy.

Members here are willing to help, but being deliberately vague isn't helping your case.

After moving to BKK about 6 weeks ago I started experiencing sudden bouts of feeling extremely ill and spiking a fever. I was at a private hospital to ask how much blood tests cost; tried 3 but could not get in a gov hospital that morning. While at the private I had another bout. Their infectiuos disease doctor came to see me and was very concerned I might have 1 of 2 new mozzie borne diseases and recommended I stay 2 or 3 nights to find out. They showed me a card of the price for 2 nights and it seemed reasonable so I agreed to admit. Now know it was not the full price.; nowhere near.

After 1 night I was feeling much better and ready to discharge but the doctor insisted I must stay in at least 1 more night. I was afraid I might have a life threatening disease and that it was highly contagious and so why I must stay in.

Since investigated the diseases : neither is life threatening, nor contagious and neither has a cure or treatment, just paracetamol and anti-inflammatory medicine at home. Absolutely no reason why I had to stay in other than bump up the bill.

I resent being conned and lied to, especially by a doctor and why I disputing the bill .

How much were you quoted & how much was the bill?

Maybe the doc was concerned that you might have Dengue.

Please explain that comment, you are being extremely careful not to actually explain your condition, why?

He was not concerned about dengue because symptoms not same. The mozzie borne he was concerned about are extremely rare in Thailand. Well apparently concerned about...

Their con about charges and lie by a doctor shocked and disgusted me.  I will never go near a private hospital again. Pity they cannot be named because of defamation law.

Whatever it was has cleared up now, no more bouts of feeling oh so ill. The doc put it down to a transient bacteria and yet insisted on testing for these mozzie borne diseases. Live and learn.

I tried to get into a gov hospital that morning to have blood tests but was turned away because they were full. Hopefully my long post explained what happened later.

A Thai woman renting a house from a friend had a broken leg. The doctor told it was necessary to put in plate and pins, roughly 300k.

The woman refused the treatment, left the hospital and went to another one. She can not have had much pain.

There no issue, cast done and it healed well.

To be aware, any hospital / medical practice is a profit orientated organisation. Some overdo it.

Exactly.

Reminds me of the phrase 'never underestimate the gullibility of your patient'

That sounds as if the doc was being thorough, & concerned about your health. He was being cautious.

How much were you charged, what was the difference in price from the quote?

Thanks for replies. I have to go out so cannot continue now.

Many thanks for info.

They quoted 7 K for 2 nights but did not say or reveal other charges as apparently they are required to by law. Total bill 36K.

OTT. Not just that but the con and lies...

my guess is no insurance and was attempting to do a runner.  Just my thoughts.

6 weeks ago.. Right in the thick of Covid-19 fears. Spiking high fever..hmm no doubt they wanted to keep you as a possible contagion carrier and why the nurses ran out of the room. Your timing was very bad but it seems given the surrounding circumstances, they would have been very irresponsible to turn you loose right away.

OP, I am afraid that your experience is not unusual here.  For every good story of excellent medical care (sic), I hear many more of poor service from under trained staff and from doctors who just don't know their stuff. over medication and unnecessary expense Living here is  a very real  medical risk for every expat and visitor , not because medical care is not available, but because it is second rate in so many many areas of the country and too expensive for very many to access in the big Cities.  Paying large amounts doesn't mean you get good or better service. If you are Thai, it is thousands of times worse.

I think the 7k you were shown on the card, was the room charge only.

Looking for a lawyer and intend to negotiate nicely.

You got insurance so what is the problem. They will pay for it. Dr'should not lie but you have given only limited data. Not even what disease they thought you had. Seems like your hiding a lot. In my experience Dr's will try to inflate a bill if you let them. They wanted me to stay overnight for something. I did not and i signed some paper and it was done.

The fact that you got insurance should be enough you are getting the money back. What is the problem. You should have asked to be signed out.

You could have checked out you just had to insist. But DR's need you to sign out otherwise they can be charged too.

If it was 36k then a lot of tests have been done too. Seems they were worried and you felt ill the first day. So seems they did the right hing.

Or anyone know a good lawyer? Thank you in advance for your help.

I take it you didn't have private health cover, perhaps if you had such a cover, you wouldn't have to be as stressed as you are now.
