Obviously none of us know, just like we never knew about the previous extensions.

they have said it’s not gonna be extended again but everywhere else still is showing no signs of opening up. Right now I personally am gonna call their bluff and laugh about it.

i won’t be laughing come September 15th when there is still no news.

ive heard they are potentially going to be doing a travel bubble in Phuket from October 1 and restrict people to only staying there... which leads to me thinking why on earth would they expect thousands of us to pack up and go 4 days earlier ? ( September 26)

Like I say, immigrsrion don’t decide, they never even wanted it extended in the first place.

boarders are still closed and everything aswell and some have already said no tourists until 2021

well they are caught between a rock and a hard place and issuing what could be seen as contradictory rules.  They wish to effectively keep the borders closed and flights to an absolute minimum.  Airlines are reluctant to fly here with such low passenger numbers, so how can they not extend visa when people can't get out. So yes, I think that they will, but will keep doing it in weeks rather than months.  Winter in the Northern hemisphere will be the crunch time.  If winter means another flare up of Covid in western countries then they really do have a tough decision to make.

I don't think amnesty will be extended. I think that those who can get a letter from their embassy like what the USA is currently offering and have 1900 baht will be able to get another 30 days though.

I just asked my gut.

No clue, it said.

An utterly futile survey IMO.

I don't think that they will continue with the amnesty in its current form .

They might start giving 30 day extensions for 1900 Baht from the I.O. , a letter from your Embassy might be required .

They may allow people with family to stay .

I do think that people who arrived on tourist visa/visa exempt will be required to leave Thailand and they wont get any more extensions or anything

I feel the amnesty will be extended until 2021.  No borders are opening by Sept. 26.  Not much will have changed since they announced the amnesty extension.  It's the same as it was.  And no borders open.

Be responsible and get your tickets before it's too late my friends. At least then you're covered either way.

You can always leave Thailand. Plenty of flights out.

some flights out. hardly plenty and the ones that are flying have a nasty habit of cancelling flights at short notice.

If it will somehow depend on a letter from the embassy, then prepare for a bunch of other requirements from the IO. This is what happened in March.

My own guess about the amnesty is 50/50. It is really unpredictable this time.

Like it or not, the rules on entering Thailand, with the quarantine requirements, are not stupid. If wishful thinking could control the virus, you would not see big outbreaks all around the world. It is an extremely difficult situation. Until effective vaccines or treatments are widely available, you either keep the controls in place, or you accept the deaths of tens or hundreds of thousands of your citizens. You can choose the economy and freedom of movement, or you can choose public health. At this point, you cannot have both. Thailand has decided on a virus elimination strategy, with relative freedom of movement and activities within its borders. It may be the best you can do.

Your comment suggests that you think, once the borders re-open, everything will go back to pre-covid day regarding the ease of obtaining short term visas from nearby countries.

But, when the latest rules were issued for the last amnesty, it was made clear that, generally, anybody wishing to stay long term needed to have an extension of stay and everybody just on short term visas should leave before 26th Sept if they didn't want to get an extension. I think this probably suggests the Government want all long stay people to to do so using an extension instead of using repeated temporary visas to stay long term.

Just my opinion but I think it's quite possible that, because they brought in those rules now, when the borders re-open, they will bring in some restrictions on obtaining a short visa at the same time.

A few years ago, to restrict people staying continually/long term on 30 day border runs, they brought in a rule that restricted land border entries to two per year. It wouldn't surprise me if they brought in something similar with regards to short term tourist, non O, 30 day entry stamps once the borders re-open.

99% they will extend it.  Nothing will change, and the risk of covid coming here is significant if they open the country up.  they won't kick out people without opening up the country.  that makes no sense (OK, maybe now 80%).

IF IF there is a vaccine and whatever, the country will open up and you will go to Laos and get a visa....whatever.

if you kick out tens of thousands or a hundred thousand people.... SOME will end up getting covid and die.  it seems like a lose-lose to kick out people.

1900 a month, every month.   if someone gets kicked out, i would hopefully assume they would never, ever come back.

not a good business model.

They shall just extend with possibility to make a correct visa ,so pushing as many they can to ext. on ret. Married or whatever with needed financials etc. , but trying to get rid of the visa exempts or short time tourists ,as that last group has no normal visa to stay longtime , as the name itself already indicates.

Got worried last week finally found a visa agent and he refused to do business on grounds extension to amnesty plain as day. His exact words.

The letter from the American Embassy clearly states that it's for people on short term visas looking for Short term extensions,id think that they know alot more than any of us,and I highly doubt they just decided to give out these letters for the fun of it.

So they are able to make other staying solutions probably ,like those I made example ,....and yes they probably know a lot more than us here.....who all hope in their own wanted solution and case

Are you saying that the Agent refused to accept your case, because he believes there will be no need for his service because of an Amnesty extension in the pipeline?

I find that hard to believe so would be interested to hear the background of his refusal.
