BANGKOK (NNT) - A meeting of cabinet ministers today agreed to extend the enforcement of the emergency decree in the southern provinces of Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani and Songhkla, and approved measures to employ new graduates in some 260,000 jobs. A Work Expo will be held to stimulate employment across all sectors.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, said today that the cabinet meeting approved the extension of the emergency decree in the four southern provinces, as there have been insurgency activities in the region. However, the security law will be eased in Mai Kaen district of Pattani province.

The emergency decree will only be enforced to deal with the insurgency and to help limit the spread of COVID-19. If the situation improves, the government will consider lifting it. However, the decree is still necessary to integrate the work of various agencies, while facilitating security operations of police and military officers.

The legal power exercised by the Ministry of Public Health only covers public health issues, and it cannot be used to deal with the situation in the southern border provinces. The enforcement of the decree is not related to political rallies.

The Prime Minister said the cabinet has approved measures to employ new graduates with bachelor’s degrees or vocational certificates in some 260,000 jobs for 12 months.

The measures will also add 1 million job opportunities in other sectors. The Ministry of Labor will organize the Work Expo. There will be measures to stimulate spending, reduce people’s cost of living, and help small entrepreneurs, especially street vendors. Relevant agencies will propose the details to the cabinet. The government will prepare a payment system to boost the confidence of consumers who are buying products from retailers and street vendors.

The cabinet approved a 2-billion-baht budget to further develop and modernize the cooperatives, so as to meet the people’s needs. One of the ways is better managment of agricultural produce.

The cabinet also endorsed the Chiang Mai Gastronomy Culture project to support Lanna cultural tourism, with a budget allocation of 48 million baht. The project is to help local farmers generate more income by focusing on street food tourism. Chiang Mai is the pilot province, and the project will later be implemented in other provinces.

Concerning social security, the government will look into the situation of those who have yet to receive assistance from the authorities. They include individuals who didn’t meet the criteria over the past six months and people whose bank accounts have yet to be verified. Payments would be made to some 50,000 people this October.

48 million baht is going to buy a lot of frogs on a stick.

And who is going to book a flight, hotel and travel just to eat tom yum in a little plastic bag bought on the street.

Oh what a guy. He decided to use all of his acquired wealth and put it back into the economy. Hardly, but probably might make some money off of this crack pot idea. Come to think of it, didn't Thaskin take money from one are and then graciously give to the poor?

He can say whatever he wants, but he will always be Pinocchio and he will  never be liked or loved by the Thai people.

Are these the same students that are protesting against the Government?

More work being done by Khun Prayut Chan O Cha. Helping Thailand recover from COVID is Khun Prayut's priority and as such evident as shown above.

It is not his money.   It is easy to be generous when you can just print money when you feel like it.  These things you mention in your post are band aides.   What is glaring Stevo is that he has not and will not do anything to build a middle class in Thailand.  Vietnam is bouncing back because it has a middle class.  China is too.  He can look pretty all he wants, but at the end of the day he is a feckless tinpot.   His bumbling is helping Vietnam and Malaysia.

... so long as they can absolutely prove they haven't been involved in any of the recent student demonstrations. If they can't, they're s**t out of luck where these jobs are concerned.

The brick and mortar hotels, stores and restaurants lobbied successfully to have the Self-appointed Admin remove all the street vendors and "regulate" the rest at "approved" and paid-for sites......right before (oh chit) COVID hit.  They brushed away the people providing food that poorer Thais could afford, and now have jackass <deleted> on their loafers.  The sidewalks are open. Wide open. Empty wide.  Congratulations--they dealt themselves their own instant karma.  Now they stimulate this and gesture that, and are nearly ready to begin realizing tourism is a much bigger and important chunk of GDP than the elites are willing to admit, even now.  But they have a notion they hope to develop into an idea that may one day evolve into a concept.
