GSD Dog or puppues

hey guys

I know there is a pets forum but it doesnt look like its active. This is aimed at the Isaan area so hopefully someone can give localised knowledge.

 

I am looking for a German Shepherd, either a young dog or a puppy, ideally two. Would also consider re-homing for the right dogs too. Any help or info appreciated. Thanks.

Just search google for 'dog rehoming thailand' and it brings up the charities/groups who find new homes for abandoned and homeless animals.

 

Some do send animals all over the world for rehoming.

The most important thing with GSD pups, perhaps you are already aware, is to get them 'hip-scored'  An x-ray of the hip joint. If they are from a puppy farm inbreeding is common and makes the hip dysplasia worse.

Also to prevent hip dysplasia in large dogs they should not be let out to run until their hip joints are developed which is around 6 months old. Walk them on a leash and keep them in the house or in a large kennel until then.

Had that problem with my GSD pup.

When she was about 12 weeks old and bursting with energy she jumped a 1 metre drop onto the beach. She only yipped once and was then fine.

Later we discovered she had 'green stick fractured' the spur in her hip joint. It healed slightly off angle and by the time we noticed a little grunt when getting up and an x-ray showed it and the vets said not to operate ie break and re-set as it would probably cause more problems. She's 11 now and still walking ok.

DM can also be a problem with German Shepherds, also the local Thai version.
Often appears around 7 years of age.    Have only seen in males.
A friend lost their dog a year ago within less than a year of showing the typical signs of rear feet crossing when walking.

It is often a painful few months both physically and mentally for the dog.

As others have mentioned hip dysplasia can be a problem
