Three killed, 2 critically injured in head-on collision in Si Sa Ket

Two pickup trucks smashed into each other on Si Sa Ket-Ubon Ratchathani Road, killing three passengers including an 11-month-old baby. The two drivers sustained major injuries.

 

Muang Si Sa Ket station police were alerted to the accident at 2.45pm on Wednesday on Highway No 226 at Km 7 from Si Saket to Ubon Ratchathani. At the scene they found two Isuzu D-Max pickup trucks crumpled from the head-on collision. Rescue staff had to use a metal cutter to free the passengers.

 

The drivers of the vehicles – Nathanon Chatkaewphanakul, 40, and Thawatchai Phromma, 47, suffered major injuries and were rushed to hospital. Their condition is critical.

 

 

Officials found the body of Muthita Ladadok, 29, Nathanon’s wife, in the front passenger seat of one truck. Her 11-month-old daughter, who was in her arms, suffered from extensive injuries. The baby was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her wounds. In the other truck, officials found the body of Jarunee Phromma, 39, Thawatchai’s wife, in the front passenger seat.

 

Police are gathering evidence to determine the cause of the accident, but a preliminary investigation showed the collision might have been caused by a slippery highway from heavy rains.

Thailand Road Carnage: Mother holding 11 month old daughter both dead in double pick-up smash

A gruesome accident was reported by Sanook on the Sisaket to Ubon Ratchathani Road in Thailand's north east yesterday.

 

Two Isuzu pick-ups collided resulting in three deaths and serious injuries to both drivers. 

 

In a white pick-up with Sisaket plates police and rescue services found the male driver with multiple injuries. He was taken to hospital.

 

Dead in the vehicle was a 30 year old woman who was clutching her 11 month old daughter who was also deceased.

 

Tawatchai, the driver of the pick-up with Ubon plates was also seriously injured. 

 

His 35 year old female passenger died at the scene.

It was caused by two idiots driving too fast for the conditions and their driving ability.

 

The 11 month old died because she was being held by her mother in the front seat instead of in a proper child seat (it is impossible to say if being in a properly fitted child seat would have saved her life, but the chances are far far higher than being held by her mother in the front seat).

 

In short, it was caused by the Thai's idiocy and complete lack of road safety and awareness.

It was caused by ‘at least one of them' driving too fast for the conditions and their driving ability.

The usual BS manure, always deflecting from the real reason why all these deadly accidents occur. Slippery this, slipperry that, slippery my a$$. Micro sleep - micro fart, brake failure - brain failure. Tired of reading/listening to the same lame excuses every day.

They just don't get it .. proper child seats are available to securely restrain a young baby yet they continue to hold the child in the front with disasterous consequences .. 

Unfortunately this won't be the last as the lessons are rarely learned ..  

seatbelts & baby car seats, no fines, nobody seem to care

That damned rain again, causing accidents, can't wait for the rainy season to end so all the accidents will stop.

My girlfriend's mum and dad just had accident. Dad was driving. Hit one car then into a house. About 110,000 damage and guess what?.....no insurance.

 

They also had one year old grandson with them. And where was he sitting? On dad's (the driver) lap.

 

Just no idea at all.

with respects , two idiots going 100km and hour in the rain hitting each other head on would probably negate the safety of the child seat

Not true... Yes, both are idiots, but child safety seats are proven to reduce the chance of serious injury or death. Had these asshats been driving reasonably, it wouldn't be an issue. But sitting in the front w momma IS THE REAL problem. 

Passengers died, drivers survived. Oh the irony of having to live knowing you were the driver of a vehicle in which your wife and possibly your kid died. Poetic justice to at least one driver, possibly both.

 

These slippery roads are getting like the ubiquitous electric poles and trees.

They seem to have an inordinate amount of evil malevolent roads in Thailand, bent on the destruction of as many innocent unwary Thais as is possible !

Maybe if the <deleted> baby seat manufacturers actually advertised they could litrually make a killing and save a load of lives. Car seat for kids adverts - zero. Try educating the locals and then woodpecker that advert and sales of car seats will sky rocket. Petition the government for a law change do <deleted> something.

RIP to the innocents.  Why do these drivers seem to have no clue about driving a pickup at speed on a wet or greasy road?  I guess it's no training, no forethought, no fear. 

 

In the U.S., I've had 4 pickup trucks over 50 years of driving in all conditions, including ice, snow and mud.  They can be pushed only so far, especially with no weight in the back.  When I taught my kids to drive, I would take them out to a big parking lot on a snowy day and let them experience driving sideways.  The 4 wheel drive ones can be even freakier than the 2 wheel drive ones. 

Stupidity combined with speed = DEATH
They'll NEVER learn.
Yet, I still can't get used to see these horrendous accidents resulting in the death of children.
RIP little one. Sad. 

I gave up a long time ago, on advising my Thai friends to wear seatbelts etc....they only get offended.....as for child restraint seats, most would be unaware of their existence and unconvinced of their usefulness, let alone the cost factor.
