Car junk yard

Featured Replies

Looking for a car junk yard here in Chiang Mai.  Has anyone seen one in or around the city?  I'm not looking for second car, just a place to get some old parts.

Go to Chang Puek gate, go straight on and then turn right at the main lights, onto the super-highway. Head towards Makro. Used to be a big place on the left, a few hundred metres down after you pass Lanna Hospital. Another place is turn left to San Kampaeng at the lights, just after you go past Makro. There used to be several places in the first or second sois on the right. A few of them only cater to one or two brands, while some want you to buy the entire front or back half of a car ! Mostly Jap import stuff. Some of them may have closed, as no customers during Covid. Good luck !

Do a search on the forum. The biggest junk yard is on the San Khampaeng Road. I've posted directions numerous times.

Sorry Elektrified, that's the first thing I did, search returned nada.  Which road were you referring to going to San kamphaeng, the 1006 or the 1317?  would you happen to have the Google map coordinates?  Thanks for the info AussiePeter, I will take a look next time I'm up in that area.

I looked at Rungroat and they have a warehouse of parts, but I'm looking for some more on the lines of this:

Junkyard Find Archives - The Truth About Cars

Specifically looking for old leaf springs, not to replace them, but to use the metal for a special project.

Did you check the place mentioned earlier in the thread? Go down past Rungroat, pass the train station, immediately past the stop light on your right is a very small soi. Go up the soi a short way. There is a huge junkyard there. (It is much, much easier to come the other way heading towards the city and turn left just at the stoplight).

I finally found a place that had what I needed.  It was located just past the big Tesco Lotus on the Rt. 11 as you head north on the opposite side of the road.  Located here:  18.812642, 98.989583

Rungroat is a good place, but oddly, when I went to ask about a water temperature gauge, the guy took one look and said no. Not just no to the model, but no to any water temperature gauges. Seemed odd, but there you go.

The other large second-hand warehouse, just before the train station (east) on the nearly hidden small soi at the traffic light also said they didn't have a single old gauge.

I will check out the one next to Lanna Hospital; I always thought that was a truck dealer, but I guess not.
