Not after a figure to make me happy, just after the facts, not opinion put forwards fact.

I disputed 80%, which you now agree upon.

I would be interested in the real data.

None of us work in the Thai statistics office so how would we know for sure? All we can do is estimate from our own experience.

Well, yeah, after them turning a blind eye as I grind out thousands of baht on all fours for them, I'd hope they still have the family farm. Oh no, wait, mother gambled it away.

This may not be the reality for your friends, but it is the reality for many.

While you are sitting all nice n cosy in farangland, I have witnessed a lot of desperation in Bangkok (though it ain't as bleak as many Isaan villages on a good day).

A lot more beggars than usual. Street walkers literally begging for just 500; never thought I'd see the day.

Your title is cringey, by the way.

No need to go back to prehistoric ages

the Thai migration from the rural areas to Bangkok is a recent phenomenon

for a lot of reasons (Religious, historic. economic...) the family and the roots

(The place where you are from, not the place where you live at the moment)

are very important for a Thai, so it should take more than 2 or 3 generations

to forget the link with the village.

Yeah, and not being able to go back empty handed is also a very real thing for many.

So, how much blame do you attribute to "mama" in Issan who gambled all the money away, most likely, just as her mother did?
