Koh Kood aka Ko Kut

For my tenth visit to Koh Kood, I stayed at Paradise Beach Resort, same as last year.

Boonsiri now operates a high speed catamaran that makes the journey in one hour, at a cost of 500 baht.  Previously Koh Kood Princess and Ko Kood Express boats took 1:50 for 350 baht.  A complementary baht bus awaits at Ao Salad landing to transport you to your accommodation.

Rather than book the more expensive beach bungalow, I opted for a room in the main building, about a 5 minute walk to the beach.  The rate was 1900.  Everything is a little more expensive on Koh Kood (except seafood sourced locally) because goods cannot be trucked-in by Ferry.  I saw very few farangs around, and I seemed the only person that wore a mask.  There has never been a reported case of covid in the Trat province.

The resort had a 5-7 PM happy hour, buy one and get one free on cocktails.  Here's a Mai Tai at the Beach Bar.

By Tuesday, almost all the Thais that came for the weekend had cleared out and the resort was nearly deserted, except for a lone surfer.

I rented a scooter for a day, at a cost of 300 baht excluding gas, the baht bus drivers are crazy.  The resort forgot to charge it to my room, but I reminded them at check-out.

The main beach on the island adjacent the Peter Pan and High Season Resorts was almost deserted, which is usually the case.

This beach villa at the High Season Resort looks very nice.  I looked up the room rate on agoda out of curiosity.  Are you ready?  46,000 with cancellation, or 28,000 non-refundable.  Includes breakfast. ????

My favorite restaurant on Koh Kood is Noochy Seafood, about a 40 minute ride to Ao Yai

My dinner consisted of nothing but fresh steamed crab, 600 baht for one kilo, same price as last year.

I stopped at Sunset Bar for a mojito to watch the sunset before returning to my resort.

As always, a very enjoyable and relaxing three days on Koh Kood.

See this archived thread for more on Koh Kood

If it’s your favorite place, what are you hoping for from posting this? You want other people to go there to crowd the beaches? I don’t understand travel bloggers.

How many people inhabit the island, and of course if it is so spectacular then why not live there year round, or at least three months and then go back to your other home in Thailand.

There are about 2,000 residents.  I think it would be boring to live there since there's not much to do but lay on the beach and availability of goods is limited.  But they have nice waterfalls

...and great sunsets.  So I go 2-3 times per year for three days just to chill out on the beaches.

It’s good you’re contributing.  There are two scuba dive shops on the island: Koh Kood Divers and Paradise Divers.

Koh Kood is also host to the most luxurious resort in Thailand, Sovena Kiri.  Rates start around 25,000 baht up to 200,000 for a 5-bedroom villa.  No walk-ins because there’s only sea access (actually, there is a service entrance protected with a draw gate).  Some guests arrive by private plane, landing on a small airstrip on one of the tiny uninhibited islands nearby.

Is there good snorkeling?

Yes. It is a long way out to sea so water is turquoise and clean. You can go on organized snorkelling tours but if you rent snorkel and fins from Paradise Divers they will tell you how to find the reef at the beach across the road.

They need help now as there are very few tourists. More people who come the better.
