Nobody ever said it was. It´s a difference to state it can be like and this is.

The large part looks like a standard  variety of passion fruit but the testicular appendage makes for confusion ! Maybe it is  passion fruit but with a touch of chemically induced deformation? I have come across seedless oranges with similar as a result of hybrid  interference.

As someone has asked what does it look like  inside?

Found this at a Temple in Ayutthaya , looked like a normal tree. You sure can not eat it, hard as wood, maybe an ornamental fruit? Took about 15 minutes, with very sharp large knife to cut it open to show inside.

Mrs. Boozer says it is Avocado that has a growth of some kind, but then she had not seen the second photograph, which I think disproves that.

But as with most things botanical, I have absolutely no idea!

My friend who is a gardener and fruit fanatic says those trees were popular several decades ago because they grow so quickly. Often planted around new moobans to provide shade.

But in fact they grow too big too quickly and become a nuisance. In our mooban of 60 homes there were some but only one remains.

Googled some and it looks like unripe passion fruit. Were there others , maybe turning purple?

Not sure as there is as well the little balls on it. A fruit on a fruit?
