The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expected Loy Krathong events in six provinces nationwide to generate revenue of at least Bt1.4 billion.

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said that the authority would hold Loy Krathong event at Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya Historical Park from October 29-31 this year.

He added that the authority is promoting Loy Krathong events in Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Tak, Samut Songkhram and Roi Et provinces as well.

"We expect at least one million people to travel across the nation and generate at least Bt1.4 billion during the festival," he said.

"The festival this year will focus on travelling in line with the new normal era and maintaining the environment," he added.

Without foreign tourists, where's the money coming from? The 100+ Chinese perhaps, but won't they be in quarantine?

Bla bla bla.

Does he have a phrasemaker machine?

Blame the moon for being too early.

Loy Krathong at the edge of rainy season.

Not good.

Despite the fact we love each other we don't do Loy Krathong any more.  No one does around here.  But it's a bit of fun for the tourists...when their actually here!

It was cancelled in 2011 when the floods put an end to it.

Aren't we heading for the same wash-out this year?

Generation of revenue is much more important than a cultural festival. The yardstick of happiness seems to be the length of the Baht.

They'll give their wardens a shopping list, and a large wedge to splash out.

The many man-made performances are intended to generate cash. They seem to hide behind people's desire to escape reality.

Expected to generate Bt. 1.4 billion. Money is really the only thing they can think of. I've never seen this in any other country in the world.

In the small city where I live it is celebrated, all locals making their own Krathong. OH! I FORGOT TO MENTION VERY FEW TOURISTS HERE, EVEN IF ALLOWED

Should've gone to Specsavers.

I always wonder who TAT is trying to impress, with the never ending posts of potential festival/celebration income being flogged.   Me?  You?  The local som tam vendor?  A heads up to the local constabulary to get cracking with their roadside....donation drives?

Maybe the hope is for that much baht, but more likely

1.4 Billion in Vietnam currency.

Geezer
